Software Development Manager, AFT Outbound/Flow

Are you a hands-on leader that can make a huge impact on a dynamic fast moving business Are you equally comfortable digging in to business requirements and drilling into architecture and design with development teams The Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) organization is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead multiple software development teams.

AFT powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. We build and operate software hardware and the processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move billions of units of inventory employ tens of thousands of people and ensure that customers get what they want when promised. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well while relying on people to handle things that humans do well.

We use innovative technologies to simplify the process by taking advantage of materials handling automation sensors computer vision robotics and machine learning. Our highly scalable distributed systems are designed to handle billions of transactions a year and run worldwide 24x7x365. We are seeking an innovative intellectually curious results-oriented technology leader who will be responsible for driving the vision product roadmap and development of these this position you will guide the efforts of multiple development teams as we build the next generation of Amazons Fulfillment Centers.

Key job responsibilities
Manage multiple high performing teams

Manage overall software development life-cycle directly and via your leaders

Create prioritize communicate manage and execute roadmaps project plans and commitments

Report on status of development quality operations and system performance to management

Work closely with Sr. engineers and Team Leaders to architect and develop the best technical design and approach

Foster culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring feedback and metrics

Hire coach and mentor individuals; build a strong cross-functional organization

Interface with a diverse customer base to understand requirements priorities and processes

Propose and implement new projects or recommend system improvements.

Own all operational metrics and support

Bring innovative ideas to the table every day in order to find better ways of accomplishing our customer objectives

AFTs Outbound Flow team pairs data science with innovative technologies to optimize throughput within every Amazon fulfillment center. We deliver smiles for Amazon customers with safe sustainable cost-effective on-time package deliveries.

- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
