Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2300 team members operating nine institutions statewide which house approximately 5800 inmates. The departments focus includes inmate programming and education physical and behavioral health care re-entry services and community programs and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Wage may be commensurate with years of experience. Additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked.
Under limited supervision researches develops and presents a wide variety of clinical care training programs and assesses the competency of a variety of clinical and direct care staff at a health care facility. Programs involve interface of multiple clinical care programs and situations critical thinking complex technology high degree of potential risk and direct correlation to facility accreditation. Programs require the expertise in conducting research formulating and developing material into a training module or modifying existing training programs utilizing adult training principles and presentation of courses to a variety of students including incarcerated individuals. Incumbents coordinate with facility management to identify clinical issues to be addressed through training clinical care staff competency and assessment of training course effectiveness. Incumbents may also assist facility management to develop local treatment protocols chair and/or participate on clinical committees conduct clinical data reviews and other clinical functions.
DUTIES:
Develops conducts and evaluates clinical competency and training programs for correctional
facility staff ensuring compliance with agency state federal and accreditation standards.
Designs educational materials for both staff and incarcerated individuals assesses clinical
performance identifies training needs and updates curricula in response to regulatory changes
or care outcomes.
Collaborates with clinical leadership to address performance gaps implement training solutions
and support policy development and revision across nursing services.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a registered nurse in Nebraska and education or experience in planning developing conduction and evaluating training or adult development courses and training adult learners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience
- Experience in a clinical education role
- Excellent training and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate educational programs
Other: Candidates will be asked to prepare and present a short power point presentation. Must possess a valid drivers license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass a medical exam and at a randomly announced time pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
