Position Summary

Responsible to provide accounting and budgeting support to Land Development branch including Land Real Estate & Facilities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Completes daily/weekly transfers write offs posting reconciliations and balances feeds and accounts
  • Completes monthly and year-end journal entries allowances posting reconciliations and balances accounts
  • Enters and processes payments prepares refunds adjustments payroll information and p-card transactions
  • Reviews and reconciles the collection agent reports and other assigned accounts
  • Confirms financial transactions processed in system are accounted for appropriately in the accounting system
  • Responds to inquiries regarding accounting
  • Maintains and analyses statistical information including collection statistics
  • Prepares and enters revenue projections for actuals
  • Confirms transfers of utility accounts to the tax roll are in accordance with legislation
  • Participates in service level reviews with a particular focus but not limited to accounting related issues
  • Assists in the design development and implementation of continuing enhancements for the branch
  • Co-ordinates preparations of the annual revenue budget and provide financial information to the Manager for control purposes
  • Acts as primary contact for bankruptcies for the Department
  • Maintains filing systems in accordance with corporate records management policies and procedures
  • Completes searches inputs data validates data manipulates data and generates reports and lists from programs and applications

Key Qualifications

  • Completion of university degree with accounting major
  • Minimum of five (5) years of previous and on-the-job experience in accounting.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles policies procedures processes and systems
  • Knowledge is gained through on-the-job experience
  • Knowledge of specific branch as well as the broader divisions/departments/branches
  • Knowledge of relevant collective agreements bylaws policies and procedures and legislation including health and safety standards
  • Knowledge of job-related office productivity software internet browsers and search engines enterprise software discipline-specific software and technology devices

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Explains and exchanges accounting and process information as well as policy and procedure information for work unit
  • Creates written service orders/requests in system detailing actions and resolution

Problem Solving and Decision Making

  • Identifies issues analyses and resolves complex issues consults and follows policies procedures and processes
  • Prioritizes and adapts office activities in accordance with daily/weekly schedule within defined timelines/deadlines
  • Provides ideas and suggestions to improve work processes

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Reginas Criminal Record Check Policy.
  • Proof of education is required.
  • Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies skills and knowledge.
