Parks and Recreation is recruiting to hire ten (10) qualified individuals to fill our Recreation Worker II positions.
The employee(s) will work all around Juneau as a Monitor for some of our most popular community gymnasiums.
The Parks and Recreation Department is the Department of Fun! We manage three public gyms that provide space for physical activity youth and adult programs and community gatherings. Our Recreation Workers help supervise these facilities ensuring they are safe welcoming and ready for use. Our team seeks to provide the best customer service possible to the public and manage the facilities and programs that are essential to the quality of life for the people of Juneau. Is reliable arrives on time and is able to open and close the gym independently for each shift.

Is flexible working varied shifts including evenings and weekends.
Keeps facility clean and safe for all patrons.
Contributes to the success of the Department.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position would be seasonal and work a flexible schedule (September through April). Hours would vary (Monday through Saturday) 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. depending on Parks & Recreation programming and scheduled rentals taking place at the gym.
Mt. Jumbo Gym is located at 909 Fourth Street in Douglas.
Floyd Dryden Gym is located at 3800 Mendenhall Loop Road in the Valley.
Marie Drake Gym is located at 1415 Glacier Avenue Downtown.
Typical Responsibilities
As a Recreation Worker II you will serve as a Gym Monitor for Mt. Jumbo Gym Floyd Dryden Gym and Marie Drake Gym. This position is responsible for floating between all three gym locations based on the facility schedule and program needs. You will independently open and close the gyms monitor facility use during open gyms and private rentals assist with setup and teardown of equipment and provide on-site support to renters and the public. Duties include processing payments enforcing facility rules responding to emergencies and ensuring a clean safe and welcoming environment for all users. This is a highly customer-facing role requiring strong communication and situational awareness to manage a dynamic recreational setting. Minimum Qualifications
Licensure:
CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment.

Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 (9) Appointments to this position are offered conditionally pending the results of a criminal records report (Non-FBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
