The role

The Department is establishing a new BASIX Operations team in the Green and Sustainable Cities Branch focused on driving sustainability in residential development via the BASIX tool and framework. The Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water and energy consumption in new residential developments. The BASIX Operations team will work alongside the new BASIX Policy team to drive the delivery reform and improvement of the BASIX framework and tool ensuring it evolves with emerging technologies climate imperatives and industry needs.

Two Senior Project Officer positions are available within the BASIX Operations Team. The Senior Project Officers will lead and coordinate work across the BASIX tool on the Planning Portal providing advice on any digital enhancements and modifications to support new or improved functionality. The roles will work closely with customer support staff and the BASIX Policy team to understand changing needs and requirements as well as scoping documenting and prioritising this work.

The roles will engage directly with the Digital Delivery area of the Department who are responsible for building and maintaining the Planning Portal to coordinate the prioritisation and delivery of digital works. Experience with data analysis will be beneficial for both roles. Slightly different skill sets are required for the two roles:

• Senior Project Officer BAU will manage and triage BAU work related to customer requests and resolve emerging issues rapidly for customers. Additionally this role will identify opportunities to improve the BASIX tool functionality and user experience.
• Senior Project Officer Programs will require experience in business needs analysis and project management to provide advice and support to the BASIX team as part of major digital projects.

The ability to apply creative problem-solving skills to progress the work of the BASIX team will be essential to both roles. The challenge lies in juggling tight timeframes competing demands and stakeholder expectationswhile still delivering high-quality outputs. Whether working across teams consulting with external partners or managing contractors the job demands clarity collaboration and a cool head under pressure.

What you will bring to the Role

• Proven ability to manage competing prioritiesdemonstrated by delivering high-quality evidence-informed recommendations and advice with consideration of stakeholder needs.
• Skilled in translating complex technical digital information into plain English that supports clear decision-making to help inform work prioritisation and funding decisions
• Experienced in building strong partnerships across your workplacedriving consultation negotiation and collaboration to progress team prioritise within the broader DPHI landscape.
• Strong project management capability to manage BAU tickets against longer term digital work project prioritise balancing deadlines resource constraints and performance outcomes to deliver results in dynamic environments.
• Adept at applying qualitative and quantitative research methods to assess emerging issues evaluate digital solutions effectiveness and formulate forward-thinking solutions under pressure and competing priorities.
• Familiarity with digital processes workflows and management platforms such as JIRA. Familiarity with a coding language such as PEGA.

What is an essential requirement:

• Tertiary qualifications in project management urban design planning or similar and/or equivalent professional experience
