The University of Hawaii-Hilo seeks a creative collaborative and patron-focused information professional to serve as Resource Management Librarian. This position provides comprehensive management of resources from start to finish; covering assessment procurement maintenance coordination and administration of the librarys digital resources; and ensuring optimal and accurate patron access to subscription resources including databases electronic journals and ebooks. The successful candidate possesses a strong service ethic and shows evidence of teamwork creativity initiative and flexibility. This is a full-time tenure-track position. Librarians at UH Hilo have faculty rank and status and are expected to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion including librarianship scholarship and service.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops procedures and workflows for making the Librarys resources in all formats discoverable and accessible
  2. Establishes and maintains access to resources through ExLibris Alma management system
  3. Tracks and assesses issues interventions and follow-ups with library resources
  4. Assesses e-resource usage creates resource usage reports for acquisitions institutional assessment and accreditation needs
  5. Identifies evaluates and stays current with emerging trends resources practices and standards in resource management usage statistics data management access and discovery to enhance library services
  6. Resolves cataloging problems and provides assistance with cataloging processes
  7. Works with vendors consortial partners and university business office to organize timely and effective ordering access payment and performance
  8. Supervises full-time paraprofessionals in e-resources-related tasks
  9. Providing outreach to remote learners and faculty engaged in distance and online learning;
  10. collaborating with the Universitys Instructional Designer to support faculty development and promote awareness of library tools and resources
  11. Serves as the subject librarian for assigned areas
  12. Participates in the general reference and instruction program of the library
  13. Serves actively on Library college university and professional committees
  14. Performs library website maintenance
  15. Some evening and weekend duties may be required
  16. Performs other job-related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Librarian II

  1. ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent

Librarian III

In addition to Librarian II minimum qualifications must meet the following:

  1. Three years of appropriate professional experience
  2. 24 post-baccalaureate credits

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated strong communication abilities and strong analytical organizational and planning skills
  2. Familiarity with library search strategies and patron needs
  3. Experience delivering reference service and participation in library instruction activities
  4. Demonstrated ability to take initiative on projects and quickly learn new tools/skills
  5. Demonstrated strong commitment to service excellence
  6. Attention to detail and ability to interpret and apply standards
  7. Knowledge of Native Hawaiian language history politics practices and contemporary issues
  8. Supervisory experience
  9. Experience managing electronic resources
  10. Familiarity with the use of controlled vocabularies
  11. Demonstrated experience with cataloging and creating metadata
  12. Experience with ExLibris Alma and/or OCLC
  13. Knowledge of metadata and acquisitions best-practices
