The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative CAP Plumbing Supervisor (Plumber Supervisor) to be a part of the DECM-Construction Construction Apprenticeship Program (CAP) Team. This position will provide plumbing construction expertise to challenging yet rewarding force account new construction renovation and major maintenance projects completed by DAC in-house construction personnel.
A successful candidate for this CAP Plumbing Supervisor (Plumber Supervisor) position will provide DECM-Constructions mechanical construction team with designing planning scheduling and installation of complex plumbing equipment and systems including but not limited to toilets urinals sinks fixtures pumps boilers fire protection piping overhead piping and underground piping. This position works hands-on in the executing mentoring and supervising plumbing installations performed by in-house personnel and volunteer incarcerated offender workers as they learn valuable trade skills to assist in their reentry.
A successful candidate should possess plumbing trade skills strong construction supervision experience efficient decision-making capabilities and effective communication. This position may work under the direct management of a Construction Superintendent Assistant Superintendent or Trade Superintendent on larger multi-trade projects or be assigned sole supervisory responsibility for smaller plumbing and/or mechanical projects.
The position requires weekly overnight travel to and from the assigned construction projects that could be located anywhere within the State of North Carolina. This position will have a duty station assigned as the individuals permanent home address and is assigned a State owned and maintained vehicle that is used to commute to and from the construction projects and to perform Company business during normal working hours.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of journey level plumbing experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
We support the Institutions and Facilities directly and indirectly by installing and maintaining kitchen plumbing mechanical electrical and electronics equipment. The DECM-Engineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design property services project management and sustainability efficiency and resiliency (SE&R). These services support new construction renovation and like-in-kind and upgrade maintenance repairs to the agencys physical plant while ensuring compliance with the NCDOA State Construction Office.
Through valuable rehabilitation and training for offenders we aim to improve recidivism rates. DECM-Construction undertakes construction renovation and major maintenance projects that involve longer periods of resource allocation with a focus on enhancing the departments infrastructure assets. DECM-Maintenance which encompasses the Mountain Regional Yard Piedmont Regional Yard Coastal Regional Yard and three Satellite Yards provides essential plumbing HVAC/R and electrical preventative prescriptive and routine maintenance services to all Institutions and Facilities. Additionally our maintenance efforts include specific areas such as telecommunications electronic intrusion systems (EIS) fencing cameras fire alarms and energy management systems all focused on maintaining the Departments infrastructure assets.
DAC uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals.
