Job Description

Role of Job:

Leads and manages the maintenance and electrical department in a timely efficient and cost-effective manner to meet operations requirements to support KaMins business strategies operating initiatives and financial objectives.

Dimensions of Job:

  • One or more plant locations with 250-500 thousand tons per year operating year-round 24 hours/day
  • Manages exempt and non-exempt employees based on site and multiple contract employees performing mechanical and electrical engineering functions.
  • Accountable for developing maintenance budget and assuring that it is achieved.
  • Decides and approves appropriations requests up to specified limit equipment requests repairs process changes etc.
  • Major Challenges:
  • Maximizing equipment efficiency and performance while assuring that the department meets operating plan and budget
  • Maximizing the available human resources to achieve goals
  • Developing and maintaining competent motivated employees.
  • Staying abreast of applicable safety health and environmental regulations

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports KaMins strategy annual operating plan and budget by developing and managing the implementation of short to long range objectives and budget for the maintenance department that are coordinated with other operations departments.
  • Ensures that equipment maintenance is conducted in a timely manner that minimizes downtime by serving as a key interface with Engineering Production and Mining operations to coordinate requirements and by managing the prioritization and scheduling of preventive reactive and predictive maintenance.
  • Ensures cost-effective maintenance support by:
  • Maintaining complete timely and accurate data
  • Instituting cost control methods
  • Identifying process improvements and equipment requirements.
  • Ensures that quality standards for maintenance department are upheld by writing and monitoring applicable ISO 9000 procedures and by assuring that training is provided as necessary.
  • Ensures department compliance with health safety and environmental initiatives that provide yearly improvement and improves sector environmental management systems by auditing and enforcing procedures by monitoring and improving equipment emissions levels and by assuring that training is provided as necessary.
  • Assist Engineering with all aspects of CAR process from writing to commissioning and start-up of new and existing projects.
  • Promotes KaMin vision principles and the desired culture by developing the skills and leadership competencies of staff and by creating a working environment that fosters motivation.

Decision Making Authority:

  • Recommends staffing decisions
  • Recommend vendors as needed for projects and/or normal operations.
  • Decides the need for temporary and contract employees; workflow training performance and first line disciplinary issues
  • Decides operating and procedural issues regarding maintenance (training use of equipment staff utilization etc.)
  • Lockout or shutdown equipment to prevent or remove safety hazard.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures to achieve KaMin Vision and visibly support the Site Safety Policy Statement.
  • Comply with safety rules policies and procedures with the intent to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Required to lead and participate in regularly scheduled safety meetings to guide team objectives.
  • Ensures that all department employees are properly trained and provides the required resources necessary to safely perform each job.

Competencies:

  • Minimum 2-year technical college degree with college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a technically related area.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of preventive maintenance vibration analysis oil analysis and engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance requirements of mineral processing equipment including spray drying cryogenic systems magnetic separator computers controllers plant electrical systems and processes.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and software.
  • Able to organize time and priorities to effectively handle multiple functions.
  • Writes clear concise memos letter and instructions which others can understand; verbally transmits ideas instructions and information so they are clearly understood by others in formal or informal face-to-face situations.
  • Demonstrates effective skills in planning supervising monitoring and accomplishing the goals of specific project requirements. Includes balancing the task requirements with relevant people issues within the constraints of schedules and budgets.
  • Understands state and federal safety regulations as they apply to ones area of responsibility and performs duties within that framework.

Working Conditions:

  • Works on projects that are identified as critical through personal efforts and justifications and by others within KaMin. These projects will primarily deal with complete systems.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations for process improvements and assists in their implementation. Selects and evaluates processing equipment and makes recommendations for plant use.
  • Works as part of cross-functional project teams.
  • Interfaces with internal/external customers vendors etc.
  • Works in an office and plant environment where subject to external environmental conditions dust fumes and odors.
  • Required to operate office equipment.
  • Some travel required to other plant sites corporate location vendors etc.
  • Available and willing to be on-call outside of regular hours
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines demonstrate creative thinking collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage workload to achieve work-life balance.
  • Ascending and descending stairs steps and ladders. with access to top of silos as needed
  • Occasional lifting 20-50lbs.
