Job Description

POSITION SPECIFICS

The Animal Diagnostic Lab at the Pennsylvania State University is searching for a skilled Research Technologist to serve in the bacteriology section (research laboratory) of a veterinary diagnostic lab whose purpose is to protect animal health human health and ensure food safety.

This is a term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Conduct research and support daily operations of the research laboratory. Under supervision and with technical support introduce and establish new assays. Handle bacterial and fungal cultures that infect avian and mammalian species.
  • Assist with developing new diagnostic tests for implementation at the Penn State Animal Diagnostic Lab (ADL) and occasionally conduct diagnostic tests on specimens submitted to ADL. Help develop review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed and assist with training visiting scholars students and other technicians.
  • Conduct research involving sample collection from farm animals / lab animal research. Involve in data collection data curation and data analysis. Maintain accurate records of laboratory reagents and equipment. Additionally oversee and document organizational duties to ensure efficient lab management.

MINIMUM EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Research Technologist - Animal Sciences - Professional this position requires: Bachelors Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None If filled as Research Technologist - Animal Sciences - Intermediate Professional this position requires: Bachelors Degree 1 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Previous clinical laboratory / research laboratory experience computer data entry proficiency and farm agribusiness and/or veterinary medical background are highly desirable.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelors degree in a relevant scientific discipline.

Additional Information: Rabies vaccination and biennial titer checks are strongly recommended and will be covered by the laboratory.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position including all possible grades is $34800.00 - $55500.00.
