We currently have an opening for a GIS System Engineering Supervisor


This vacancy is open to current NCDIT employees only or previous NCDIT employees with unexpired RIF priority re-employment rights. Current temporary employees working for NCDIT will also be considered.


The GIS System Engineering Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the enterprise GIS server and cloud environments which are comprised of more than 270 servers organized into multiple server stacks and cloud resources including VMs COTS software and custom applications.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Change management for system and software updates patches and upgrades
  • Reviewing changes for security and compliance with GIS Unit Enterprise Architecture
  • Implementing and maintaining a server maintenance strategy that includes dashboards and alerts for early detection of issues
  • Management of GIS software and configuration on client machines
  • Planning for future growth and the implementation of new technologies
  • Supervising a team of system engineers that are dedicated to the GIS Unit
  • Collaborating with Operations and other IT Teams in DIT Transportation



About the Division

The primary purpose of Department of Information Technology -Transportation (DITT) is to provide the full spectrum of information processing services and support for information resource management in the Department of Transportation (DOT).

  • The primary purpose of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit is to provideGISservices direct allGISbased application systems development reports server/system architecture andGISsystem maintenance for theNCDOTinfrastructure.
    • TheGISTeam employs management architects application developersGISanalysts and subject matter experts to meet the growing business and technological needs ofNCDOTdepartments and external users.
    • TheGISTeam meets withNCDOTclients and gathers established strategic business requirements needed to createNCDOTGIScontent applications and servers.
      • These applications are used to improve internalNCDOTuser and external user productivity and communication.
      • TheGISTeam continues to maintain these applications throughout the applications lifecycle. TheGISTeam also creates and maintains the internal and externalGISsystems and services enterprise wide.
  • In addition the GIS Team determines project timelines resources and costs for each application project and provides leadership vision and direction for Internal NCDOT and external GIS systems.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelors degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive experience in business application business intelligence or enterprise application consulting or development

OR

Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development

OR

High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma and ten years of experience in business application business intelligence or enterprise application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
