Description

The City of Oxnards Public Works Department Special Districts Division is seeking Maintenance Specialistswith strong technical and customer service skills to be part of the team.

WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Use a wide range of hand tools small power tools and medium power equipment for the maintenance and repair of Special District areas within the City of Oxnard
  • Performs preventative maintenance by inspecting fixtures and making necessary repairs

  • Repairs and maintains water supply irrigation and plumbing/sewage systems

  • Performs installations inspections repairs and maintenance of trees sidewalks masonry landscape equipment irrigation systems plant material minor building systems electrical systems park site amenities and building functional and aesthetic fixtures and features.

  • Works from building plans blueprints and sketches to plan and layout routing and placement.
  • Organizes the job site ensuring it is properly staffed and has the necessary equipment.
  • Coordinates with other tradespersons completing projects when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician Senior in that it performs both skilled maintenance and skilled repair work and provides troubleshooting of equipment issues.


WORK SCHEDULE:The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm and alternating Fridays 8:00am-5:00pm. This position may be required to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs.

Essential Functions

(This class specification represents only the core area of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)

  • Performs skilled maintenance and repair work in assigned trade and/or area; plans prioritizes and schedules activities to complete repairs and maintenance work in efficient and timely manner; selects proper tools and equipment for assignment; monitors work site safety; performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.

  • Performs maintenance inspections; troubleshoots equipment maintenance and/or system issues; identifies repair needs; reviews repair versus replacement costs and makes recommendations; performs required repairs or works with outside contractors for project completion.

  • Organizes and maintains assigned equipment and tools; inspects cleans and performs preventative maintenance to ensure operability and reliability of equipment and tools.

  • Review equipment and materials required for daily maintenance and work projects; initiates request for or purchases approved materials and supplies.

  • Prepares and/or maintains activity records logs work orders material requests reports and/or technical documentation for equipment or building systems.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
  • Four (4) years of equipment operation/driving experience or formal trades experience in one or more areas related to assignment
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid California Class C Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record may be required for some positions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing

NOTE:For most positions the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

Regular and reliable attendance effective communication skills and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.

Employees are required to participate in the Citys direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.

This position requires a 12 month probationary period.

Pursuant to California Government Code Section 3100 all public employees are required to serve as disaster service workers subject to such disaster service activities as may be assigned to them.
