Halyard is a highly skilled multidisciplinary engineering company with services including site studies design procurement cost control program management implementation and commissioning predominately in the mining and utilities sector.
Reporting to Halyards Design Office Manager and/or the Engineering Manager you will be responsible for delivering mechanical / piping /structural engineering designs and layouts cost estimating and project engineering and project management functions from concept through to increased IFC completion for various levels of projects ranging from studies to EPCM and EPC projects. This work under your responsibility will be delivered collaboratively by you and the project team members that you are responsible for.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering:
- Working collaboratively within a multidiscipline environment to drive progress and to meet project deliverables.
- Managing the deliverables of the project team.
- Carry out innovative detailed designs as required for specific disciplines following good engineering practices.
- Ensure that the discipline designs are carried out in accordance with relevant codes and legislation industry standards and where applicable the clients standards and specifications.
- Ensure design interfaces between disciplines are accounted for.
- Review and approve design information received from vendors contractors and consultants.
- Ensure designs are fit-for purpose (i.e. tailored solutions).
- Interface with engineers designers and draftspersons including those of other disciplines.
- Provide mechanical design input equipment specification and selection for studies and proposals including writing specific sections of technical reports.
- Provide mechanical/ piping support and interact with contractors during the construction phase of projects.
- Performs inspection activities such as sites assessment of green and brown field projects shop fabrication inspections and other quality control reviews.
Project Design Lead:
- Manage and coordinate the overall project design.
- Lead the multi-disciplinary design team for the project.
- Preparation of design concept development.
- Develop and recommend improvements in design standards and improve work quality.
- Attend meetings and communicate with vendors/clients to establish their design goals/needs and discuss design issues with them. Coordinate internal design review sessions with all relative disciplines.
- Take lead on project set-up and ensure they stay on track and meet the budget and timeline.
- Coach validate manage progress and set deadlines for designers work to ensure they are applied to all designs and details.
- Verify drawings for Halyard standards accuracy proper material selection follows process flow and consideration for cost saving and safety.
- Forecast and measure work progress against forecasts.
- Report on work progress.
Required Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
- 5 years experience in a similar role within a multi-disciplinary mining & minerals processing EPCM environment.
- Degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
- 5 years experience in project engineering & design.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory codes and standards including Canadian standards and codes.
- Effective communication and report writing skills.
