Job Description Summary
The Traffic Manager is responsible for the distribution movement and storage of the companys supplies. The primary duties include supporting and driving progress and process improvements in our ocean drayage and air relationships. The position will focus on the Asia Pacific supply chain delivery routes containers expedites and consolidated freight. The Traffic Manager will leverage their knowledge of world class best practices to guide logistics decisions. Working together with operations strategic sourcing sales and product management the Traffic will ensure Knape & Vogt is providing the right solutions from the right freight partners with the right terms and conditions in support of our operational goals.
The duties and responsibilities of the Traffic Manager will consist of but are not limited to the following:
- Focus on Asia Pacific supply chain delivery routes containers expedites and consolidated freight
- Responsible for day-to-day ocean shipment processes globally and drayage domestically acting as the lead coordinating and facilitating decisions that keep freight continuously moving
- Coach on execution toward KPIs and hold our business partners accountable for high performance
- Own tactical relationships with global logistics partners
- Provide input into the department strategy plan and cascade the execution across the organization
- Define plan and execute mid-size projects to improve the existing business and set the stage for future growth this includes partnership changes (i.e. ocean and drayage changes) and evaluating and rebidding freight routes
- Perform freight analysis carrier metrics and establish budgeting guidelines
- Drive and support the annual bid processes for ocean and drayage; is tasked with developing improving and maintaining the bid files keeping up with industry standards associated communications obtaining rate quotes from carriers arranging and analyzing all areas of the bids providing insight and making recommendations for approval
- Define reporting requirements such as rate impact analysis root cause analysis and performance reporting to support recommendations
- Evaluate performance against KVs organizational goals (or KPIs) including performance vs budget on-time performance; recommend implement and execute strategies to improve KPIs
- Drive continuous improvement through all areas of responsibility internal and external
- Build relationships with team members and external customers to work through supply chain issues
- Support strategic sourcing team with special projects and assignments
- Drive organizational effectiveness and excellence through developing processes leading teams enabling a highly motivated work environment and creating innovative approaches for improvement
- Coach and develop others to ensure organizational success; identifies talent and provides opportunities to learn and grow; recognizes great performance; provides ongoing feedback; addresses performance issues decisively and quickly
- Responsibility for overseeing Trade Compliance and managing associates as necessary
- Assist with selecting and obtaining fleet drivers and equipment
- Publish and present metrics on logistics performance
Requirements:
- Work Experience: 5 years of Supply Chain and/or logistics related experience in a manufacturing environment including managing business partners and contracts; 3 years working with Asia pacific supply chain and Asian culture; extensive experience in international trade experience previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Transportation Logistics Supply Chain/Sourcing or related field
- Computer Skills: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and databases ERP Systems and Transportation Management System(s)
- Travel: Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
