Job Description

Senior Data Protection Advisor

Role Title: Senior Data Protection Advisor

Hours: 35 hours per week Monday - Friday

Salary:73000

Contract: Fixed term for 12 months

Location: Dartford / Agile - 3 days a week minimum in the office is required

At Moat were looking for a strategic and knowledgeable Senior Data Protection Advisor to lead and shape our data protection practices. If you want to make an impact at the heart of a purpose-driven organisation we want to hear from you.

As our Senior Data Protection Adviser youll be the go-to expert across Moat leading on all aspects of data privacy. From guiding complex data sharing agreements and conducting DPIAs to advising on cutting-edge projects and managing breaches youll ensure we stay compliant confident and always one step ahead.

Youll lead strategic initiatives influence at senior levels and embed a culture where data protection is everyones responsibility.

What youll be doing

  • Provide expert leadership on data protection advising teams across the business.
  • Lead privacy elements of strategic programmes and deliver structured DPIAs.
  • Manage DSARs and data breaches with professionalism urgency and care.
  • Maintain accurate records and registers to demonstrate robust compliance.
  • Draft and review policies guidance and data sharing agreements.
  • Monitor and interpret legislative changes ensuring Moat stays ahead of risk.
  • Train and upskill staff at all levels including other data professionals.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and project teams.
  • Drive a proactive privacy-by-design approach to new initiatives.
  • Champion data protection awareness across the organisation.

What were looking for

Youll be a confident proactive professional with a deep understanding of data protection law and the ability to translate it into clear actionable guidance.

Youll need:

  • Significant demonstrable experience working in a senior data protection role in a complex organisation at DPO level for some of your experience
  • Expert-level knowledge of the UK GDPR DPA 2018 and related laws
  • A recognised data protection qualification (e.g. CIPP/E BCS)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Strong project and policy development experience

Desirable Extras:

  • Experience mentoring other data professionals
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001 and wider data governance practices
  • Knowledge of privacy risks in emerging tech (AI biometrics cloud)
  • Confidence in delivering training sessions and workshops
  • Understanding of FOIA and records management principle
