The Role
Join Australias most trusted news organisation in one of Queenslands most popular locations the Fraser Coast.
ABC is seeking an experienced reporter to join our News team based in Hervey Bay.
Working in a small bureau with one other reporter you will work independently with support from the larger ABC Wide Bay team based in Bundaberg.
You will cover Hervey Bay KGari Maryborough Bundaberg and the broader Wide Bay region delivering compelling content across radio TV and digital platforms.
The role will include
- Breaking news stories for radio TV and online platforms
- Producing radio news bulletins video packages and digital stories including filming your own content
- Building strong relationships and developing excellent contacts in the local community
- Collaborating with the bureau Editor and Wide Bay newsroom team to shape story development and news planning.
- Contributing to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan and communicating with stakeholders as required.

About You
- Strong writing interviewing and communication skills you know how to find a story and to tell it in a way that is engaging and relevant to the audience
- A passion for local news and a genuine commitment to uncovering stories and issues that affect and interest the local audience.
- Proven experience working as a reporter in a newsroom
- Broadcast experience is not essential but will be highly regarded
- The ability to work under pressure and unsupervised to tight deadlines
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to learn new skills quickly
- The ability to analyse information and exercise soundjudgment.
