Position Overview:
Under the general supervision the Perinatal Hepatitis B Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) supports the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program by ensuring proper case identification management and surveillance of perinatal hepatitis B cases in Harris County. This position works with healthcare providers birthing hospitals and public health professionals to ensure adherence to state-mandated prevention protocols facilitate vaccination series completion and promote education and compliance efforts to reduce the transmission of hepatitis B in newborns.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Case Identification and Monitoring: Monitor and manage perinatal hepatitis B cases ensuring timely follow-up vaccination and serological testing.
- Vaccination Compliance and Patient Follow-up: Track vaccination compliance for hepatitis B-exposed infants and provide reminders to families and providers.
- Case Management: Provide case management and follow-up to reduce missed immunizations and improve health outcomes.
- Training and Outreach: Educate and train healthcare providers on hepatitis B prevention reporting requirements and best practices.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate case records and program data using public health databases and tools.
- Program Evaluation: Analyze and report program data to assess vaccination rates and program effectiveness.
- Healthcare Collaboration and Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with healthcare providers and hospitals to implement and support prevention strategies.
- Emergency Response: Assist with special tasks related to public health emergency events including vaccine distribution efforts and emergency response coordination.

Education:
- Associates degree or diploma in Nursing
Experience:
- At least two (2) years of experience in nursing with a focus on public health immunization or infectious disease management
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current license with no restrictions as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the State of Texas by the Texas Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners
- Valid Texas drivers license
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of vaccination schedules and protocols
- Understanding of infection control practices

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- Full-time position with standard hours
- Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
- May require occasional evenings or weekends based on program needs and public health events
- Local travel within Harris County required for outreach and provider engagement
Work Environment:- Professional office and clinical setting within Harris County Public Health.
- Frequent collaboration with hospitals clinics and community healthcare providers.
- Standard office equipment used including computers phones and filing systems.
- May require travel within Harris County for site visits provider training and community outreach.
Physical Demands:- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
- Occasional lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds for transporting program materials.
- Standing and walking required during training sessions community outreach and site visits.
- Must be able to travel locally for healthcare facility visits and meetings.
