Position Overview:

Under the general supervision the Perinatal Hepatitis B Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) supports the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program by ensuring proper case identification management and surveillance of perinatal hepatitis B cases in Harris County. This position works with healthcare providers birthing hospitals and public health professionals to ensure adherence to state-mandated prevention protocols facilitate vaccination series completion and promote education and compliance efforts to reduce the transmission of hepatitis B in newborns.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Case Identification and Monitoring: Monitor and manage perinatal hepatitis B cases ensuring timely follow-up vaccination and serological testing.
  • Vaccination Compliance and Patient Follow-up: Track vaccination compliance for hepatitis B-exposed infants and provide reminders to families and providers.
  • Case Management: Provide case management and follow-up to reduce missed immunizations and improve health outcomes.
  • Training and Outreach: Educate and train healthcare providers on hepatitis B prevention reporting requirements and best practices.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate case records and program data using public health databases and tools.
  • Program Evaluation: Analyze and report program data to assess vaccination rates and program effectiveness.
  • Healthcare Collaboration and Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with healthcare providers and hospitals to implement and support prevention strategies.
  • Emergency Response: Assist with special tasks related to public health emergency events including vaccine distribution efforts and emergency response coordination.

Work Environment:

  • Frequent collaboration with hospitals clinics and community healthcare providers.
  • Standard office equipment used including computers phones and filing systems.
  • May require travel within Harris County for site visits provider training and community outreach.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
  • Occasional lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds for transporting program materials.
  • Standing and walking required during training sessions community outreach and site visits.
  • Must be able to travel locally for healthcare facility visits and meetings.
