Job Description

The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice in the starting September 1 2025.

DU is the oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region and is classified as an R1 Doctoral/Research University. The Daniels College of Business is one of the largest colleges within the University offering a variety of majors and minors including nine bachelors degrees four MBA degree programs seven specialized masters programs and an Executive PhD program. Daniels was founded in 1908the eighth-oldest collegiate business program in the United States. It has held AACSB accreditation since 1923. U.S. News & World Report Bloomberg Businessweek Financial Times Forbes and Poets&Quants routinely recognize Daniels programs as among the best in the country. It has abundant sunshine one of the countrys largest city park systems an impressive craft beer scene and ample access to outdoor activities. All of it is easily accessible from the DU campus.

The Assistant/Associate Professor will join which consists of 3 full-time faculty members and offers a minor in Entrepreneurship in addition to core classes in the undergraduate program and a variety of one-credit courses (Sprints) for undergraduate and graduate students across the university.

Position Summary

The Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice will have responsibility for teaching and service. We are looking for a practitioner with strong experience in entrepreneurship who can bring practical insight and real-world knowledge to the classroom. The ideal candidate will have: entrepreneurial experience ability to design and teach entrepreneurship courses involvement in the business community (e.g. mentoring founders supporting startups investing or organizing events) interest in working closely with students to support their ideas ventures and professional growth a collaborative approach to work across programs and units and strong communication skills.

The Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice will be expected to teach courses during the academic year which may include fall winter and/or spring quarters. Teaching responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional hybrid and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve day night and weekend classes. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on the registrars website. The Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice is expected to participate in the academic life of program and the Daniels College of Business.

Essential Functions

Teaching: The Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice will be expected to teach the equivalent of eight 4-credit courses throughout the academic year which may include fall winter and spring quarters. DU follows the quarter system with three 10-week long academic terms in fall (early September-late November) winter (January-mid March) and spring (late March-first week of June). There may also be opportunities to teach during the nine-week summer quarter.

Service: The Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice will be expected to participate in the academic life of and the Daniels College of Business. This includes but it is not limited to attendance at faculty meetings and participation in assurance of learning and curriculum development. Significant involvement with students is expected of all faculty members. A primary function of faculty members in the Professor of the Practice Series is to provide students with connections to the professional fields the students will be entering.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a business discipline or a closely related field with 10 or more years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrated potential for strong performance in teaching and service as defined under Essential Functions.
  • Expertise achievements and reputations developed over a sustained period of time that qualify them to be distinguished professionals in entrepreneurship.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Active participation in the entrepreneurial or business community.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and oral).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience starting and running a business.
  • Teaching experience in entrepreneurship.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging diverse populations and students with different learning styles.
  • Experience teaching at an AACSB accredited institution with excellent teaching evaluations.
  • Experience learning and teaching others to use new technology.
  • CPA or other professional designation.
  • Terminal degree (DBA Ph.D.) in entrepreneurship or a closely related field from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited institution.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule

While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on the registrars website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is$110000 $130000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
