Job Description

Position Description

The Seattle Police Department is seeking a dynamic and detail-orientated Equipment Servicer. This position in this class under close supervision repair and service a variety of vehicles and equipment. General guidelines exist in the form of standard operating procedures and technical manuals. Special assignments not covered by guidelines are discussed with supervisor. Personal contact is primarily with intra-departmental employees for the purpose of exchanging information.

Job Responsibilities

  • Providelogistical support for SPD Headquarters by coordinating the timely and efficient maintenance and repair of vehicles.
  • Assistin operation and maintenance of SPD motor-pool including automated key management system.
  • Trackand assign vehicles transport vehicles to the Citys vehicle maintenance facility for preventive maintenance and general repair.
  • Maintainsrecords of repair and maintenance activities including materials and time used.
  • Answers service telephone calls and records information on type of vehicle and repair as well as location.
  • Drivesvarious types of vehicles service vehicles or any vehicle that must be moved to service shops or other locations.
  • Cleansvehicles and shop area to ensure shop safety and proper equipment operating conditions.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Requires a minimum of one year of experience in general automotive and truck maintenance (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Work collaboratively with other city employees external suppliers and vendors to address requests for service and resolve problems.
  • Ability to effectively use department computers and programs such as Microsoft Word Excel Office and Asset Works Fleet Anywhere.
  • A valid Washington State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with no restrictions.

Position Requirements:

  • Must pass a Seattle Police Department background investigation.
  • This position is an onsite position; the employee is expected to perform work in remote work option is available for this schedules will be based on an agreement between the employee and their supervisor.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in an automotive shop with exposure to noise fumes and hazardous materials such as asbestos from brake linings motor oil grease and brake fluid.
  • Required to work in all types of weather and road conditions.

License Certification and Other Requirements:

  • Current state of Washington drivers license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement TIA Tire Certification Propane Dispensing Station Certification within six (6) months of hire.

More information about employee benefits is available on the Citys website at: full salary range for this position is$33.41 to $36.06per hour.

New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression which is $33.41 hourly. Current City employees starting rate of pay will be based onPersonnel Rules regarding promotions. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) regular position with full benefits. This is a Civil Service position eligible for overtime.
