Software Development Manager, Redshift Data Management

Amazon Redshift is a fast scalable analytic service that makes it simple and cost-effective for our customers to analyze data across their data warehouse and data lakes. Redshift delivers faster performance than other analytics services by using machine learning massively parallel query execution and columnar distributed storage on cloud.
As the Manager of Software Development for Redshift Storage team you will be responsible for leading a group of top talent in the design and development of a distributed Storage Engine of a product that allows for the setup and deployment of analytics services in minutes and running queries across petabytes of data. Amazon Redshift is simple to use and scales elastically. Redshift automates most of the common administrative tasks to manage monitor tune and scale your data. This allows customers to break free from the complexities of managing on-premises data warehouses and data lakes.

Responsibilities include:
- Growing and leading a software development team responsible for rethinking the assumptions behind how traditional analytics services are built and thinking how to build database services best suited for the cloud.
- You will develop the design implementation testing and deployment of these services.
- You will draw from your deep and broad technical and management expertise to mentor senior engineers complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues design tradeoffs and feature and schedule prioritization.
- As an engineering leader within analytics services you will work with product management to develop business targets. Influence our technical and business strategy help hire talented engineers and conceive innovative new solutions for our customers.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazons Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWSs services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization youll support the development and management of Compute Database Storage Internet of Things (Iot) Platform and Productivity Apps services in AWS including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
