Description

Under the general direction of the Collections Manager performs a variety of tasks in the areas of receiving data entry processing circulation distribution and assists with KDLs centralized MeLCat procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives and unpacks all new library materials: checks for correct quantities and condition of materials etc. Communicates with vendors regarding incomplete orders damaged goods etc. Prepares materials for return shipment to vendor as needed. Reconciles the replacement or credit of returned items.
  • Attaches new library materials to the database by searching on-line database for bibliographic record that matches the library material and adding item information into the appropriate fields.
  • Performs copy cataloging by searching for records on the OCLC database editing them according to Library of Congress and MARC standards and transferring them to the local database. Performs database maintenance activities such as correcting typos and changing fields as directed.
  • Processes new and donated library materials for circulation. Duties include but are not limited to attaching bar codes spine labels ownership labels RFID tags and preparing jackets. Mends worn and/or damaged materials as needed.
  • Supports KDLs centralized MeLCat procedures through a variety of tasks including but not limited to the following: processing incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan materials; running regular reports and sending notices; facilitating billing and invoicing procedures according to MCLS policies; providing MeLCat support to KDL users and branch staff; performing general problem-solving and follow-up communication with KDL branch staff and other participating MeLCat libraries as needed.
  • Checks in new library materials to patrons with holds on new items.
  • Routes materials directly to the patrons branch location of pick up.
  • Pack unpack and sort books mail and other materials for distribution to and from other libraries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • The job requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one totwo years of work experience.
  • Physical agility to push/pull fully loaded book carts and flatbed carts retrieve or place materials above shoulder or below knee level and lift/carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Computer skills necessary to effectively access information on the computer and/or maintain databases.
  • Knowledge or aptitude to learn the MARC format OCLC and basic cataloging rules and practices.
  • Manual skills and dexterity necessary to affix labels jackets etc. to books and media.
  • Mathematical aptitude and analytical ability to accurately perform routine calculations.
  • Interpersonal and communications skills to provide and request general information from library staff vendors and others.
  • Visual acuity to accurately read a computer screen and written materials.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks fast and accurately.
  • Ability to travel between work locations and related places of business as needed.

Additional Information

  • KDL provides library services to our local communities seven days per week.
  • While this position is currently assigned to the above location KDL reserves the right to requireemployees to be available for assignments at any KDL location.
