Relocation reimbursement for actual costs up to $5000 may be available if incumbent is relocating greater than 100 miles.

Position Overview:

Springfield Oregon is home to 63000 community members within 16 square miles and situated just east of I-5 between the Mckenzie and Willamette Rivers. Springfield is near an abundance of recreation opportunities at the nearby coast rivers and mountains.

The Springfield Police Department is dedicated to providing excellent service to our community members and building relationships to work collaboratively on public safety issues. The Springfield Police Department is supported by 122 positions that include sworn police officers unarmed community service officers corrections officers supporting the local municipal jail and dispatchers.

The department is a complex operation consisting of several divisions: Operations Division Operations Support Division Business Services Division Detention Services Division Office of Professional Standards and Office of the Chief. Within each division there are several specialty units such as K-9 Traffic Motors Tactical Team School Resource Officers Detectives Peer Support and others.

Chief Requirements:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice business public administration or a relevant field; or enrolled in an accredited four-year degree program with the ability to obtain bachelors degree in 24 months
Eight years of law enforcement experience with two years at the lieutenant or similar command level
Executive Certificate from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) or the ability to obtain within 24 months of appointment (Link:
Department of Public Safety Standards & Training : Upper Levels of Certification : Criminal Justice : State of Oregon)
Requires possession of a valid drivers license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon drivers license within 30 days. Must maintain acceptable driving record.
Pass Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background requirements including fingerprints within 30 days of hire.
Possession of or ability to obtain a Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification and renewal every two years.

$199038 depending on experience and based on State of Oregon defined bona fide factors in accordance with Oregons Pay Equity Act.

Additional Premium pays:
Bilingual Pay: 5% above base rate of pay
Uniform Pay: flat bi-weekly amount to cover the cost of cleaning uniforms and/or clothing
ORPAT Pay: 1% above base rate of pay
Mental Health Pay: 0.5% above base rate of pay

Selection Process:
Candidates considered for this position will be identified through a series of screening tools and tests including an Employment Application Psychological Exam Comprehensive Background Medical Examination to include drug screening for controlled substances and Oral Interviews. All testing and selection processes will be done in accordance with the Oregon Veterans Preference in Public Employment Law.

Oral Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of August 18th.
