Position Summary
The Intern Community Conservation Programs will assist staff with bird conservation habitat restoration and conservation science activities at Montezuma Audubon Center (MAC) and the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. The role includes engaging community groups working with volunteers enhancing various habitats assisting staff with conservation science projects and education programs. Most of the activities take place either at the MAC New York State Department of Environmental Conservation areas and US Fish and Wildlife Service properties and reach a range of ages from two to adult. Strong candidates will take a thoughtful approach to bird conservation. While the focus is on the MACs conservation projects the Intern Community Conservation Programs also provides help with MAC management including animal care staffing the front desk and greeting visitors.
Length of Internship: 3 weeks
Location: Onsite. Montezuma Center Savannah NY
Hours: 24/week
Compensation:
$19.00 / hour
Additional Job Description
Intern Responsibilities and Learning Objectives:
During the internship you will work with Montezuma Audubon Center staff to:
Implement community-based conservation programs at priority sites in and near Montezuma Center that engage new and diverse audiences and improve habitat.
Assist staff with stewardship programs partnerships and projects; work with Center staff and Community Partners to incorporate Audubon priority content (e.g. native plants and lights-out) into programs and develop tools and resources appropriate for the region.
Conduct community science and conservation action projects and other monitoring of sites in the Montezuma Wetlands Complex that adds to the data and ecological knowledge of the sites.
Care for inanimate and live collections; acquire create and maintain educational artifacts equipment and supplies. Duties may include researching purchasing maintaining and storing such equipment and supplies.
Internship Benefits:

Qualifications and Experience:
Commitment to Audubons organizational values of care collaboration change integrity impact and innovation.
Interest in working with groups of children adults and families.
Proficient in basic office administration.
Ability to traverse all the major pathways and trails of the MAC and on uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
