Job Description

Job Title: Swim Lesson Coordinator
Location: Speer Branch YMCA
Description: Under the direction of the Aquatics Director the Swim Lesson Coordinator provides leadership and supports operations in the Aquatics Department including supervision of swim lesson instructors. This role also ensures the safety of all participants in and around the YMCA pool.
Job Duties:
  1. Lead fun safe and educational group swim classes in alignment with the YMCAs mission and goals.
  2. Build authentic relationships with members and help foster community within the YMCA.
  3. Assist in developing and implementing consistent in-service training for swim lesson staff.
  4. Support swim lesson operations by printing rosters communicating with parents managing supplies and assisting instructors as needed.
  5. Enforce all facility policies rules and health/safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of participants guests members and staff.
  6. Act as Deck Supervisor during peak hours (e.g. camp season and swim lessons) managing lifeguard rotations and secondary duties.
  7. Address member concerns in the absence of the Aquatics Director and Aquatics Coordinator.
  8. Assist with recruiting training onboarding scheduling and supporting Aquatics staff including new swim instructors.
  9. Ensure all staff certifications are current and maintain compliance with pool operation documentation.
  10. Support staff performance evaluations and help implement motivational strategies.
  11. Help establish new aquatic programs and expand community engagement in alignment with strategic goals.
  12. Provide swim lesson instruction and assist with scheduling and coverage as needed.
  13. Compile program statistics and evaluate participation and program effectiveness.
  14. Plan and attend events such as Healthy Kids Day Family Fun Nights and other YMCA celebrations.
  15. Attend abuse prevention training and comply with all related reporting and risk management responsibilities.
  16. Maintain constant supervision of the pool during assigned shifts.
  17. Report pool maintenance concerns promptly.
  18. Adhere to all departmental policies related to privacy confidentiality and security.
  19. Follow all YMCA policies and complete additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • At least 1 year of experience in recreation pool management lifeguarding swim instruction or water park operations
  • Ability to enforce rules and communicate effectively with members participants and staff
  • Knowledge of swim lesson programming and experience creating schedules
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification CPR for the Professional Rescuer AED and Oxygen Administration
Pay Hours & Perks:
  • $18-$22 per hour based on experience and certifications

Work Schedule:
  • Tuesday Friday: 2:00 PM 7:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM 3:00 PM
  • Off: Sunday & Monday
