Description

Clinical Assistant Professor in Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Wagner College invites applications for a full-time one-year position as a Clinical Professor of Philosophy in Ethics with a concentration in Bioethics. A Clinical Professors primary duty is excellence in teaching and service to instruction including development of curriculum both within the discipline and in collaboration with divisions across the campus.

Applicants can be broadly trained in ethics but must have demonstrated competence in bioethics. Preference is given to candidates who can additionally offer an introductory critical reasoning course for philosophy minors pre-law students or students completing their general education requirements.

The candidate should be prepared to teach a range of students from those specializing in the health sciences in professional programs like physicians assistant nursing and occupational therapy to students in the liberal arts who take bioethics or ethics to fulfill general education requirements. Faculty may also have opportunities to teach in applied and environmental ethics.

Wagner College is also committed to interdisciplinary and experiential learning. Successful candidates will demonstrate creativity and flexibility in the classroom and a willingness to work across disciplines and divisions.

Responsibilities:

Three courses per semester 6 per academic year (plus opportunities for overloads)

Collaborate in developing curriculum and establishing new course offerings

Contribute to the intellectual community at the college and inspire students to do the same.

Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in philosophy (preferred) or another discipline in the humanities with a clear connection to ethics and bioethics. ABD considered.

Prior teaching experience is a plus but not required.

Potential for excellence in teaching at the college level

Commitment and sensitivity to issues of diversity equityinclusion and accessibility
