Wilson College invites applications for a Director of Clinical Education (DCE) in our Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) program. This full-time faculty position offers the opportunity to play a key leadership role in clinical education working closely with students faculty and clinical partners to ensure a dynamic and high-quality learning experience.

Position Summary:
The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) holds a faculty appointment and is responsible for a blend of administrative academic student mentorship scholarly and service-related duties that align with the mission and philosophy of the MS-SLP program. The DCEs primary focus is to plan coordinate facilitate and monitor all aspects of clinical education across the curriculumincluding clinical coursework on-campus residencies and fieldwork placementsin collaboration with both academic and clinical faculty.

As a vital link between the MS-SLP program and its clinical education partners the DCE is responsible for identifying and establishing clinical sites ensuring they meet program standards and maintaining strong ongoing relationships with site supervisors and clinical educators. This role requires demonstrated expertise in clinical education curriculum development teaching and fostering professional growth in students and clinical faculty alike.

Administrative Responsibilities

Clinical Education & Program Development

  • Develop monitor refine and assess the clinical education component of the curriculum across the program (i.e. courses on-campus residencies and fieldwork placements).
  • Develop and administer clinical education policies and procedures.
  • Actively engage core faculty in clinical education planning implementation and assessment (clinical courses and on-campus residences).
  • Develop collect and analyze outcome data from the clinical experiences and clinical hour software to create reports to share with the Program Director Program Coordinators and Faculty.
  • Lead and oversee the continual review and analysis of clinical experiences outcome data and current evidence-based practices to inform clinical curriculum revisions and updates.
  • Assist in developing the program budget related to clinical education.
  • Maintain and update criteria for site selection utilizing feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Develop opportunities for clinical hours during on-campus residency experiences via community outreach.
  • Develop opportunities for clinical hours to support on-campus residency experiences and clinical practicum courses (e.g. Telepractice Practicum).
  • Continuously revise update and maintain the clinical education program manual. Provide updates to faculty and students as needed.
  • Attend actively participate and contribute to leadership meetings faculty meetings and programmatic workgroups.

Clinical Program Management

  • Lead the negotiation execution and ongoing management of contractual agreements.
  • Oversee the selection evaluation and development of clinical education sites and faculty.
  • Track students clinical hours to ensure compliance with accreditation and educational standards.
  • Provide documented records and assessment of the clinical education component including clinical education sites and clinical educators.
  • Administer and document the programs clinical education component ensuring compliance with accreditation and educational standards.
  • Manage the placement supervision and assessment of students in clinical settings.
  • Serve as a liaison between the universitys MS-SLP Program and clinical education sites.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and manage the negotiation and maintenance of clinical education agreements.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator to ensure alignment and mapping of clinical course learning outcomes and objectives with on-campus residency activities.
  • Prepare accreditation documentation in conjunction with the Program Director.
  • Monitor the performance of students and clinical faculty.
  • Manage fiscal allocations for clinical education and monitor the utilization of resources.

Clinical Education of Students

  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator in the development and execution of the on-campus residency content to ensure the integration of academic and clinical learning that meets educational programmatic and professional objectives and standards.
  • Oversee the SLP residency to ensure delivery of high-quality clinical experiences that are interactive (i.e. hands-on clinical skills training) and address the mid-higher level Blooms taxonomy.
  • Facilitate quality learning experiences for students during clinical education experiences across the program (i.e. courses on-campus residencies and fieldwork placements).
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator on designing and implementing interprofessional experiences across clinical courses and on-campus residency experiences.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator to implement timelines and processes to support the delivery of the on-campus residencies (i.e. faculty assignments development/updates to teaching guides content and materials etc.).
  • Evaluate students performance in collaboration with the Curriculum Coordinator and in cooperation with other faculty to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator and faculty on designing formative and summative learning experiences for students during on-campus residencies.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator and faculty in the creation of remediations/intervention plans for clinical experiences as needed.
  • Educate students clinical and academic faculty about clinical education.
  • Mentor and advise future clinicians.
  • Direct and manage all sections of the clinical practicum seminars including faculty assignments and student mentoring group selection.
  • Direct communication with students regarding clinical experiences across the program (i.e. courses on-campus residencies and fieldwork).
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator and faculty in developing scoring rubrics for residency activities to monitor and track student acquisition of skills and competencies (i.e. skills checklists and student performance rating scales).

MS-SLP Program Support

  • Chair the Clinical Education Committee which includes overseeing the residency curriculum in collaboration with the Curriculum Coordinator and leading all committee initiatives.
  • Serve as a member of the Strategic Planning Steering Commitee.
  • Lead a strategic planning subcommittee dedicated to a specific focus area.
  • Coordinate with the Curriculum Coordinator to ensure alignment of clinical content objectives across the curriculum and clinical experiences.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator to plan the synchronous session schedule.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders to maintain current knowledge of the program clinical sites and changes in healthcare affecting education.
  • Coordinate communication to manage and disseminate critical information including program philosophy curriculum details policies and procedures to program faculty clinical educators and students.
  • Engage in regional state and national events related to clinical education.
  • Mentor and support future clinicians and faculty in clinical education roles.
  • Promote and provide development opportunities for clinical faculty and site supervisors.
  • Mentor students annually on research or scholarly program-related projects. The number of students mentored is determined by program support and needs.
  • Participate in at least one interdisciplinary learning initiative each academic year.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional engagement by maintaining membership in at least one relevant professional organization each academic year.
  • Participate annually in scholarly activities such as publications conference presentations and service on peer-review or research committees.

Qualifications:

  1. Candidates should have a masters degree or higher (clinical doctorate or academic terminal degree (PhD or EdD preferred).
  2. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist in Pennsylvania by starting date.
  3. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
  4. A minimum of two years of full-time experience as a clinical or academic faculty member in a CAA-accredited MS-SLP program.
  5. Compliant with ASHA and state-specific requirements (based on student location) for supervision of graduate SLP students.
  6. Applicable experience in clinical leadership (SLP program leadership experience and/or demonstrated successful leadership experience with the CAA accreditation process are preferred).
  7. Proven scholarship service and committee activities.
  8. Knowledge of legislative regulatory legal and practice issues affecting clinical education students and the profession of Speech-Language Pathology.
  9. Active in professional activities at local state and/or national levels.
  10. Experience conducting clinical simulations is preferred.

Teaching and Education Responsibilities

  • The DCE is classified as an Administrator with Faculty Privileges per the Wilson College Faculty Bylaws (July 2024). The DCE will primarily and administratively manage the clinical curriculum and experiences across the addition to administrative responsibilities the DCE workload includes teaching student mentoring scholarship and service as agreed upon with the Program Director. The workload distribution is as follows and subject to change based on program needs:
    • Administration: 50%
    • Teaching: 30%
    • Student Mentoring: 10%
    • Scholarship/Research Mentoring: 5%
    • Service: 5%

Scholarship Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and disseminate research/scholarship activities following accreditation requirements and institutional policies and procedures.

Service Responsibilities:

  • Participate in institutional and professional service opportunities following accreditation requirements and institutional policies and procedures.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full time 12 months
  • Remote/Hybrid
  • Periodic travel to the Philadelphia metro area for intensive on-campus residency experiences and Chambersburg PA for College functions.
