Job Description

Your role

You will participate in local Linux infrastructure installation maintenance and support as well as contribute to a number of key Linux based (e.g. authentication monitoring DNS email scientific computing) services. The IT team collaborates actively with the pan European EMBL IT teams.

Your role within the IT Team will include the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare install and maintain high availability computer services primarily based on Linux;
  • Prepare install and maintain Linux desktop/laptop systems;
  • Identify improvement points in the current Linux IT service infrastructure and propose/implement solutions;
  • Provide excellent and user-friendly support for our internal and external Users;
  • For short periods (e.g. vacations) contribute to any other IT team tasks.

You have

  • Candidates must hold a BSc or MSc in Computer Science or equivalent qualifications and prior experience in the same line of work.
  • In-depth technical experience with Linux Systems;
  • Programming and scripting ability such as Python or bash;
  • Strong independent problem-solving abilities;
  • Intermediate to advanced verbal and written communication in English;
  • Aptitude to produce and maintain reliable and documented work;
  • Strong ability to communicate and to work effectively in a team;
  • Balanced interest in Opensource as well as proprietary technologies.
  • Candidates with short or average experience with the system administration field but who are at ease with its concepts and techniques are welcome to apply as well.

You may also have

  • Skills with networking systems such as switching VPN and firewalls
  • Good knowledge of authentication technologies such as LDAP OIDC/SAML
  • Skills with tools such as ansible server virtualisation (Proxmox) and containerisation
  • Experience with storage systems such as NetApp.
  • Experience with HPC systems and software (such as SLURM)
  • Good knowledge of the French language.

Contract length: 3 years

Salary: salary grade 6 or 7 depending on individual qualifications and experience min basic starting salary 3.900 EUR/month (after tax and before 12% deduction to EMBL social security system) plus other social benefits.
