Title: Graduate Assistant (Biocultural Initiative Puulani Agroforestry Restoration Project)

Salary Information: Step 15 - $29148 annually ($2429 per month)

Monthly Type: 11 months

Part Time/ Full Time: Part Time (20 hours per week)

Full Time Equivalency: 50%

Other Conditions: To begin as soon as possible temporary position not to exceed May 31 2026. Renewal dependent upon satisfactory performance position need availability of funds and meeting the eligibility requirements of the assistantship (for details go to theUHM Graduate Division website). Position is not remote.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support development and mentoring for an undergraduate biocultural internship course at a community-based agroforestry restoration site in Heeia Oahu.
  2. Assist with care (including planting weeding and watering) and research (including vegetation soil and social surveys).
  3. Help plan and carry out community work days and cultural workshops.
  4. Lead and contribute to communication of project outcomes and progress.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Undergraduate degree in botany
  2. Proficiency in Olelo Hawaii and knowledge of biocultural dimensions of native and canoe plants
  3. Experience working with Native Hawaiian led organizations and with Native Hawaiian agroforestry systems.
  4. Excellent skills in oral and written communication.
  5. Full-time classified graduate student pursuing a degree in topics related to biocultural restoration.
