General Description

*THE SEMINOLE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE IS OFFERING A $15000 HIRING INCENTIVE FOR CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WITH AT LEAST 4 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE!*

The Seminole County Sheriffs Office is now accepting applications for the position of DEPUTY SHERIFF.

To be eligible for the hiring incentive applicants must have four (4) years of experience as a certified Law Enforcement officer.

The hiring incentive of $15000 will be broken down as follows:

$5000 first paycheck

$4000 After 1 year of employment

$3000 After 2 years of employment

$2000 After 3 years of employment

$1000 After 4 years of employment

Applicants eligible for the hiring incentive who successfully gain employment with SCSO as a Deputy Sheriff will be required to sign an employment agreement committing them to maintaining employment with SCSO for one year. If the employment agreement is broken the employee will be required to reimburse SCSO the first $15000 hiring incentive payment of $5000.

The position of Deputy Sheriff pro-actively performs generalized law enforcement and public safety work in the protection of life and property and serves as a community resource to reduce the fear of crime by identifying and resolving crime and other problems through law enforcement procedures community interaction and community involvement.

The starting salary is $58024 ($25.95 per hour) plus the potential for additional holiday pay up to $3425 for those employees who work twelve (12) hour shifts. The Sheriffs Office offers a competitive benefits package including retirement benefits under the Florida Retirement System (FRS) paid medical/dental/life insurance generous leave accrual wellness benefits education incentives and assistance.

Persons who gain or are appointed as full-time Certified Law Enforcement Officers with a Florida criminal justice agency on or after July 1 2022 and who have never previously been employed as a Law Enforcement Officer within the State of Florida are eligible for a One-Time Bonus Payment of $5000.

Bonus payments are considered to be taxable income and will be issued by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) in the gross amount of $6694 (includes $1694 for the payment of taxes). The DEO remains responsible for issuing payments and enforcing repayment should the recipient leave employment as a Law Enforcement Officer before the two-year agreement has been completed. Typical Duties


  • Identifies and resolves problems in area served; develop strategies programs and crime prevention methods and facilitates community interest and involvement in a variety of endeavors intended to enhance community life. Interacts with and attends Neighborhood Watch homeowner association meetings and serves as a liaison to various committees as assigned
  • Enforces/ensures compliance with Federal and State laws local ordinances and judicial compliance orders; Contacts and monitors career criminals early release inmates and probationers to facilitate successful re-integration back into the community
  • Enters crime and other reports into laptop computers; prepares investigative and other reports including sketches using appropriate grammar symbols and mathematical computations
  • Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims witnesses suspects and confidential informers
  • Apprehends fleeing suspects and performs rescue operations at accidents emergencies and disasters to include directing traffic for long periods of time; administering emergency medical aid lifting dragging and carrying people away from dangerous situations; and securing and evacuating people from particular areas
  • Loads unloads aims and fires from a variety of body positions handguns shotguns and other agency approved firearms under conditions of stress that justify the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards
  • Reads and comprehends legal and non-legal documents including the preparation and processing of such documents as citations affidavits and warrants
  • Performs all other duties as required

Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory in the performance of an employees duties for this position to include schedules work hours and required training activities calls for mandatory overtime needs and call for service during times of an emergency.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work environment for this position is in a Sheriffs Office marked emergency vehicle. The incumbent drives a vehicle and extensive walking is required when not in the vehicle.

Emotional/Psychological- Potential contact with hostile individuals; direct inmate contact exposure to emergency situations; may be exposed to trauma grief and death; frequent public contact; decision-making and concentration

Special Requirements-Ability to behave respectably and with utmost integrity even when off duty. Shift work (days or nights) with rotating days off including working weekends nights holidays and/or overtime; May be required to respond for any critical incident manmade or natural; must be able to appropriately wear and operate personal protective equipment as assigned for their role

Environmental- Exposure to varied weather conditions

External applicants for employment will submit to a thorough background investigation which includes but not limited to past employment/education verification driver license review credit history prior drug use history arrest/conviction record and computerized voice stress analysis (CVSA) testing. A certified examiner administers the CVSA with questions addressing illegal drug use and general questions of honesty and criminal history. Any dishonesty or deception on the Employment Application will disqualify your application.

The background investigation process may take 3-6 months depending upon the complexity of the applicants background and position for which youve applied. Applicants selected for employment will be provided a conditional offer and required to submit to a medical examination with drug screening.
