Description

Reporting to the Food Store Manager responsibilities for the position include the following:

Reporting to the Food Store Manager the Assistant Food Store Manager plays an integral role in working closely with all Department Managers (including fresh) to support them in the execution of their operational plans and deliverables by providing day-to-day assistance coaching guidance and follow-up so they are enabled to deliver operational excellence and results.

This role supports the planning monitoring and managing of assigned internal projects from initiation to completion across the entire store (Centre Store and Fresh departments) and is required to apply operational knowledge in key performance the absence of the Food Store Manager the Assistant Food Store Manager provides leadership coverage across the location ensuring that the day-to-day store operations run smoothly in alignment with the Food Divisions goals and objectives.

Operational Leadership:

While the Department Managers (including Fresh) are accountable for their departments operational results and team performance the Assistant Food Store Manager in partnership with the Food Store Manager and Department Manager(s) will conduct daily store walkarounds to review and discuss each departments daily operational plans. The Assistant Food Store Manager will accordingly follow up and work with Department Manager(s) to address any operational challenges or gaps ensuring the department managers are provided with day-to-day support for the execution of their plans to drive operational efficiencies.

Talent Management & Team Leadership:

Leads their team within the parameters of the CBA and Saskatoon Co-op policies and procedures. Practices full cycle talent management talent acquisition onboarding performance management including communicating clear performance expectations coaching and collaboration with the Supervisors seeks feedback from Supervisors for the creation of performance reviewsdevelopment planning and driving employee engagement and implementing strategies to promote a positive employee work experience.

Financial Management:

Works with Food Store Manager to review financial reporting for the Centre Store Department and provide variance explanations within the timelines provided and implements adjustments to obtain profitability. Creates centre store budget including HBC lottery and post office where applicable. Assists Food Store Manager with overall site level audits and implements audits of the Centre Store Department including regular inventory counts schedules and recording of markdowns.

Brand & Customer Experience:

Creates supports and provides direction for the promotional activities at store level including thethe design and mentoring of others to build the displaysarrangements for in-store demonstrations use of POP materials. Supports brand initiatives and programs in alignment with the overall marketing strategy of Saskatoon Co-op.

Safety (and Environmental) Stewardship:

Responsible for ensuring compliance of Saskatoon Co-ops Safety Policies Programs and government regulations (OH&S Committee meetings fire drills and operators certification) in Centre Store operations. Reports incidents workplace accidents and near misses as required. Aids in investigations in asset protection or other related matters. Implements actions to prevent future safety events.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent education with a preference for post-secondary education.

  • Candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of experience within the Retail Food Industry

  • Preference will be given to candidates with proven leadership experience and further preference to candidates who have completed FCL Grocery Advance or Food Group Training.
