Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives: Communication - The student worker will be responsible for effectively communicating library information to students faculty staff and community patrons. This could include book location/availability study room availability or account information. They must also demonstrate the ability to communicate class schedule information and availability to full time staff. Technology - The student worker must have basic knowledge of technology and be able to learn how to use library-specific software and other related technology. They will also use Microsoft Office and other similar programs. They will be responsible for assisting library patrons with setting up wifi and printing on personal devices and other technology-related tasks on a daily basis. Position Summary The Nash Library Student Aide will be the face of the library. He/she will be the first and last person the library patrons see and will therefore be an integral part of keeping patrons coming back to the library. The aide will assist staff with daily routine library operations. Duties may include library searches general office work shelf-reading data entry pushing in chairs/tidying up the library space assisting patrons and maintaining statistics. Good manual dexterity is necessary for specified tasks. Essential Functions Greet library patrons in a friendly and welcoming manner Monitor the building for maintenance needs Demonstrate leadership communication customer service skills and the ability to work with staff students and members of a diverse background Answer patron questions Assist patrons with library circulation functions including (but not limited to): item check ins item checkouts item renewals and searches all following proper service desk procedures Enforce ID regulations for borrowing materials Answer the library phone Record statistics Walk through the building hourly to record the number of patrons Refill printers and copiers as needed Alert the service desk supervisor or student supervisor when supplies need reordered or repairs are needed around the building (furniture computers etc.) Keep the library tidy by pushing in chairs and returning furniture to where it belongs Warn patrons that arent following library rules and/or alert a supervisor of overly disruptive patrons Shelf management tasks such as shelving books and shelf-reading Other tasks as assigned Working Conditions Work is performed in a busy campus setting. Some evening and weekend hours are required. Must be a team player and willing to cover or trade shifts if necessary. The student must be able to work days evenings weekends and occasional campus holiday breaks if necessary.
Physical Demands
Able and willing to lift and carry weight possibly up to 20lbs. Able and willing to move around building and potentially across campus. Repetitive movement of arms hands and/or legs. Required Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled full time student. Must have minimum 2.8 GPA
