The job:
As the everyday faces of GFL our Solids Residential Drivers interact with residential communities on a day-to-day basis and perform tasks that make those communities safer and cleaner places to live.
The primary focus of this role is to collect and transport waste from assigned residential routes to our GFL facilities where they then properly dispose of all addition to operating side-load or rear-pack trucks Drivers are also required to assist Helpers in lifting trash and recyclables into the truck making it a bit more physically demanding.
A day in the life* of a Residential Driver:
- Upon arriving to work meet with the team assess all equipment and upcoming routes and prepare for the day ahead
- Your morning tasks may include:
- Operating a waste collection vehicle along designated routes mechanically collecting waste
- Transporting all collected solid waste to post-collection facilities
- Assisting Collection Helpers in loading waste into truck
- Maneuvering truck in and out of minimum clearance spaces
- Using a key map and GPS to locate service addresses
- Following safe operating practices including lock out or tag out procedures
- Submitting pre-trip and post-trip inspections and/or vehicle condition reports
- Interacting with customers or general public in a courteous manner along designated route
- Notifying management of any issues along collection route
- Perform afternoon tasks either continuing tasks from the morning or starting new ones guaranteeing compliance with applicable regulations and standards

Whats required:
Solids Residential Drivers must meet the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class specific qualification - recruiter to update
- Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience OR CDL school certificate
- Control operations of equipment; maneuvering truck in and out of spaces using mirrors to back distances of approximately 120 feet or more
- Knowledge of trucks their components and the basic maintenance requirements for safe operation
- Exert physical effort including pushing pulling bending and lifting items up to 50 lbs.
- Use fine motor coordination with arm hand finger and leg dexterity
- Ability to kneel crawl and climb
- Sitting is required 75% of the time
