JOB GOAL:The role of a Transportation Specialist involves supporting the educational process by transporting students along designated routes or to/from special outings. Responsibilities include ensuring the safe operation of the vehicle maintaining its condition and prioritizing student safety during transport as well as loading and unloading procedures and providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for maintaining facilities in safe operating condition; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESshall include but not be limited to the following:
- Operate vehicles safely and transport students to and from school on field trips and other events as scheduled
- Guarantees the secure transportation of students to and from designated locations encompassing the proficient operation of specialized equipment tailored for students with unique requirements. This may involve handling car seats wheelchairs seat belts lifts or any other necessary equipment
- Keeps meticulous records of attendance seating arrangements disciplinary incidents and current student details. Communicates effectively via radio dispatch with parents students administrators and any other relevant individuals.
- Performs pre-and post-bus inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation standards and compliance with appropriate safety standards.
- Carries out regular cleaning and maintenance tasks for buses including refueling and upkeep of fuel logs. Promptly notifies relevant district personnel of any observed or potential defects in school buses to ensure timely resolution.
- Interact with students in a positive and appropriate manner
- Report in writing the malfunction of the bus to the supervisor immediately
- Oversees daily school bus operations to uphold student conduct standards consistently and enforce appropriate disciplinary measures as necessary.
- Enforce all District rules and regulations following the Assertive Discipline Plan for buses
- Discharge students only at authorized stops
- Maintain safe accident/violation-free driving record
- Report all accidents and complete required reports
- Report any moving violation of any vehicle to the immediate supervisor within 48 hours
- Reports safety hazards and the need for major and minor repairs
- Performs safety measures and secures the area
- Performs light maintenance duties including but not limited to changing filters painting and general repairs
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. work orders assign repair requests budgetary recommendations preventive maintenance programs etc.) to provide up-to-date reference and comply with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing operation systems
- Requests components equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory ensuring availability of items required to complete all repairs/installations
- Coordinates with assigned lead and/or supervisor and other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently
- Builds items (e.g. counters temporary partitions etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs
- Performs preventative maintenance on systems (e.g. lighting heating and ventilating systems alarms plumbing security electrical panels etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and workable environment
- Processes written materials (e.g. work orders etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information
- Attend organizational meetings as scheduled
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education Certifications Licensing and/or Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a valid Arizona Drivers License for 1 year
- Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License with P and S and Air Brake Endorsement before transporting students
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 30 days of employment
- Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 fingerprint clearance card
