Description

The Department of Environment Culture and Society (ECS) is seeking a sessional instructor to teach GEOG 2700 Introduction to Geographic Analysis in the Fall 2024 semester. This course introduces students to quantitative methods for data analysis including descriptive and inferential statistics. The successful candidate will deliver the lecture for this course will design or adopt a lab curriculum will train and supervise the Teaching Assistants (TAs) who will deliver the lab curriculum associated to this course. Course materials including power point slides and assignments are available to support the successful candidate.

The course description is as follows:

This computer-based laboratory course introduces students to quantitative methods used for geographic analysis. Students learn the fundamentals of statistical analysis of quantitative and qualitative variables and how to use computer software to perform these analyses. At the end of the course students understand how to apply quantitative methods to answer questions of geographic interest and have developed a working knowledge of the most commonly used statistical software in quantitative geography.



Requirements
  • PhD in Geography Environmental Studies or discipline sharing similar quantitative data analysis methods required; PhD candidates and/or relevant Masters Degrees with professional experience that contributes to engaged scholarly teaching will be considered.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability and expertise in the area of specialization.
  • All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply however applications from Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
