Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach one or two sections of EDIE3100: Child Development and Teaching.
Section 1:Thursdays 12:30 3:20 p.m.
Section 2: Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. - 11:20 a.m
Calendar Description
This course presents an overview of child development as it relates to teaching. The course begins with a survey of the main models and theories of child development and considers relevant implications for teaching. Teacher candidates review research that examines child development and teaching especially research that reviews effective teaching practice with children who are at different developmental levels and children from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Requirements
Required:
- A Bachelor of Education is required
- A Master of Education is required
- Recent experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years full time classroom experience is required
- Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
- Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
- Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred
- Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills is required
- Proven skills in building intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect are required
- Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
- Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
- Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA10) is required
