Second Harvest of South Georgia Inc. is the regions largest hunger fighting non-profit agency annually working with over four hundred partner agencies throughout a 26-county region. This covers a nearly 12000 square mile region. We are looking for dedicated and compassionate individuals to fill the CDL Class A Drivers position at our Thomasville facility.

Full job description
The Mobile Food Pantry Driver will support the mission of Second Harvest of South Georgia Inc. by executing the Mobile Food Pantry program and operating and maintaining the Mobile Food Pantry (MFP) truck and equipment. Additionally our MFP Drivers will support the Mobile Market Place (MMP) mission in terms of site sharing client service coordinated event start and finish work physical positioning and any other activities to ensure the on-going success of both the MFP and MMP programs developed by Second Harvest. Work together with Operations and Program Services to ensure a variety of food resources are available in communities served through our MFP distribution sites targeting remote access areas of SHSGs serve area.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITY and EXPECTIONS of the WORK
  • As the Mobile Food Pantry (MFP) driver he/she will demonstrate a professional demeanor in interactions with all Second Harvest of South Georgia Inc. staff agencies program representatives and government officials providing direct support as needed therein ensuring a compliant safe facility and environment.
  • Keep informed and consistently practice the policies and procedures of SHSG Feeding America national office USDA FDA and government regulations pertaining to food handling storage sanitation and disposal.
  • Ensure that maintenance of the warehouse equipment grounds vehicles sanitation pest control fire prevention and safety procedures are followed. Particular attention should be given to volunteers and staff safety when working in proximity to SHSGs commercial vehicles.
  • Possess knowledge and support of Second Harvest of South Georgia Inc. and all programs.
  • Complete ServSafe training within the first six months of employment and keep current.
  • Complete forklift certification per Federal and State Regulations.
  • The Mobile Food Pantry Driver reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and indirectly to the other members of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible in supporting the Programs Department.
  • Maintain CDL A License per guidelines under FMCSA/USDOT and a safe driving record.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with MFP and on-site coordinators and partner agencies working with the MFP program.
  • Ensure food distribution program compliance with Second Harvest of South Georgia Inc. and governmental guidelines and regulations during MFP distribution activities.
  • Ensure that the MFP truck trailer and equipment are properly maintained cleaned and are fully serviceable for distributions.
  • Responsible for working with Operations to plan pull and load food to be distributed during the month to each MFP distribution site.
  • Ensure records are maintained during distributions in regard to food distributed food transferred to partner agencies client data and other required data.
  • Responsible for the effective execution of the MFP distributions.
  • Has the authority to shut the sight down due to unruly activity after consultation with COO or other member of Senior Leadership Team on-site staff.
  • Works alongside Agency Relations and each respective leadership tree in terms of process changes and questions during any given MFP distribution.
  • Identifying and preparing new MFP distribution sites and times.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Be a team member of the Operations team and support facility needs as time permits including disaster relief Point of Distribution events and other kindred projects.
  • Support Second Harvest of South Georgia Inc. special events training education and capacity building activity as assigned.
  • Maintains and follows effective processes for office communications and administrative procedures.
  • Maintain program files to ensure compliance with Feeding America and governmental regulations.
  • Accurate route logs are completed and kept.
  • Ensure that the information on MFP inventory reports is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain proper vehicle inspections and documentation.
  • Deal effectively with a variety of personalities and situations requiring tact judgment and resolution.
  • Handle site distribution complaints suggestions and requests.
  • Develop strong customer service skills in effectively dealing with the public.
  • Develop communication skills with co-workers to understand and articulate the need for support.
  • In working as a contact for the organization demonstrates a professional demeanor in all interactions with Second Harvest staff member partners visitors volunteers donors and the public.
  • Visitors / clients should be handled professionally and promptly.
  • Deal effectively with a variety of personalities and situations requiring tact judgment and resolution.
  • Strictly adhere to the SHSG dress code at all times on duty.
Other functions:
  • Promote a cooperative spirit within the organization and among internal and external participants.

Minimum Skills and Qualificationsrequiredto capably perform in the position
Training Education and Experience:
Education:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
Experience:
  • One years demonstrated experience in the operation of a commercial tractor trailer.
  • One year experience in the operation of warehouse equipment according to established safety regulations proven by certification card and/or review by Second Harvest of South Georgia Inc. certified trainer required.
  • 1-2 years of strong customer service experience required.
KnowledgeSkillsand Abilities:
  • Familiarity with food products storage and handling requirements and knowledge of warehouse practices preferred.
  • Able to work independently and to handle multiple priorities under minimal supervision.
  • Experience in the operation of warehouse equipment (forklifts pallet jacks) according to established safety regulations.
  • Ability to work a non-traditional or assigned 40-hour work week and effectively manage time.
  • Understand instructions and effectively demonstrate quality results.
  • Possess a willingness to learn and ability to retain and produce like work.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively. (Over 50 pounds requires team lifting)
  • Ability to work well with other staff members and volunteers.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required for special events post-disaster recovery and community needs.
Allowable Substitutions:
Combination of education experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position may be considered in lieu of education and/or experience at the companys discretion.
Language Skills:
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and convey concepts in an understandable way.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff volunteers and the public.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to perform basic math functions through written assessment.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Inventory Warehouse assessment.
Technical/Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency required in the use of Microsoft Office Word Excel and Outlook Software.
  • Capable of learning and independently operating equipment required for the position including printer multi-use copier and phone system.
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be reliable and dependable.
  • Positive work ethic food relationship management skills and team-oriented attitude.
  • Maintain compliance with established SHSG directives policies and external regulations.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • Valid and current Commercial Class A Drivers License.
  • SHSG employees must provide their own transportation to work as we are a first-responding agency.
  • Maintain a safe driving record in driving company vehicles.

This position requires working in an internal and external warehouse environment consisting of hot and cold temperatures walking standing bending climbing stooping twisting pulling and pushing. Operating heavy machinery in a standing or sitting position. Routine travel to meetings functions and special events is normal which requires driving. Occasionally required to respond to organizational needs outside of normal working hours. With forklift traffic in the facility and product stacked and stored throughout this position requires someone who is mobile and who can hear and watch for traffic and normal hazards of a warehouse environment. Conducts work in a fast paced and deadline driven environment.
