Job Description

Come lead the Homework Center at the San Bruno Library!


The City of San Bruno Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time temporary Library AssistantHomework Center Supervisor. Candidates must be able to commit from September 2025 to June 2026 for 17 hours per week and availability Monday 2-6PM Tuesday 2-6PM Wednesday 1-6PM and Thursday 2-6PM (with the exception of Library and San Bruno Park School District holidays). Although this is a ten-month position the program is ongoing. Continued employment in subsequent school years may be considered based on performance and program needs.

Under the direction of the Library Services Manager the Library AssistantHomework Center Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Librarys after-school Homework Center including classroom management homework help supervising and training volunteers collaborating with library staff and maintaining
accurate records of homework center attendance. The incumbent will be responsible for
maintaining a welcoming place for students to do their homework effectively within the larger context of the library and for planning STEAM weekly activities and training/supervising students in the use of the 3-D printer. The homework center is a free drop-in after-school program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Some college coursework

  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to assist students with homework and computer skills

  • Ability to relate to the public in a tactful and effective manner


IDEAL CANDIDATE


The ideal candidate is a self-starting independent individual with sound judgement capable of working in a busy team-oriented public-service environment; possesses excellent customer service skills; has experience working with students in a group setting experience working with volunteers and experience leading STEAM/Makerspace activities. Bilingual English-Spanish skills is a addition the candidate possesses the following competencies:

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION


*This is a part-time/temporary/seasonal position with the City of San Bruno. As such employees agree to serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be terminated at any time. This position works a maximum of 17hours per week and does not provide any benefits except for paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces Healthy Families Act of 2014 all temporary part-time and seasonal employees who on or after July 1 2015 work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes. Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of may use up to 40 hours (or 5 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.
