Job Description

Description

The Slip Tender supports the traffic and vessel operations at the terminal by maintaining the terminal clean and locating trailers at the terminal. The main responsibility is using the computer control system to operate the ramp.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at #2 - 850 Jackson Road Nanaimo.

What youll do

  • Operation of marine slip (including understanding of manual air assist operation during electrical power interruptions).
  • Regular maintenance checks of all wharves docks and slips - including the application of lubricating oils grease etc. as required and/or directed to ensure that same is in safe operating condition.
  • Handling of mooring lines turnbuckles chains rail extensions (gangways safety barricades) and other equipment required for the safe tie up or release of all vessels at the berth.
  • Handling of track shoes trailer stands blocking and other equipment required for the safe handling of rail cars and trailers (rubber-tired units) on all vessels at the slip.
  • Directing trailer parking onboard vessels as required from time to time.
  • Operating company vehicle and equipment including forklift for the purpose of delivering removing handling of stores equipment garbage deployment of emergency response equipment and materials as directed.
  • Performing regular maintenance checks of company vehicles - including washing checking fluid levels signal lights etc. or otherwise as directed.
  • Maintaining Vessel Activity Report indicating times of vessel arrival/departure traffic loaded/unloaded at slips and any use of tug assists by vessels in entering or leaving berth.
  • Keeping an accurate logbook noting any unusual occurrences relating to the slips or terminals including hard impacts to the slips/berths incorrect procedures followed trespassers noted etc.
  • Performing regular checks of all trailers on the terminal to record trailer numbers and signs of damage as directed.
  • Performing regular security patrols to report any suspicious or unusual occurrences to the on duty SFC Supervisor or local authorities (Police/Fire) as required and/or directed.
  • Performing basic terminal clean-up - including grass and brush cutting application of de-icing material and other duties as directed to ensure a safe and clean workplace.
  • Performing basic janitorial duties as the traffic office as directed.

The estimated salary for this position is $32.26. In determining final salary Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidates skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Companys sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

Please note candidates must be willing to apply for union membership with the TC Local 1976 USW.
