Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate

EXEMPTION STATUS:Exempt

REPORTS TO:Director of Counseling/Counselor Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Primary Purpose

Provide counseling services to students as identified by the individual campus referral process and communicate and collaborate with staff campus staff and parents as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology or similar program

Current licensure with the by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of various counseling techniques and counseling models-individual and small group counseling

Ability to individualize counseling to meet students unique needs

Working knowledge of state codes governing guidance and counseling

Knowledge of the psychological and social development of children

Strong consultation skills for conferencing with students staff and parents

Strong organizational communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

Experience

Minimum 1 year experience in counseling education or related field (including Internship and Practicum)

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Assessment

  • Participate in meetings to assist with appropriate counseling services and development of the individual education plan according to District procedures.
  • Provide counseling services to students as determined by campus referral process and MTSS team.
  • Track student support in district platforms and pull reports when necessary.
  • Update counseling goals and develop new goals as needed.

Consultation

  • Assist staff with crisis calls and intervention
  • Collaborate and consult with campus staff outside agencies and parents regarding students needs and progress.

Program Management

  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluations of services provided to students and adjust based on findings.
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents.
  • Comply with District campus routines and procedures.
  • Comply with federal and state law State Board of Education rule ACA Code of Ethics and local board policy in the areas of counseling services assessment placement and planning for services.

Communication and Community Relations

  • Collaborate effectively communicate and maintain a positive relationship with campus staff colleagues supervisors students and parents.
  • Meet and communicate with parents as appropriate to discuss pertinent information regarding the student.
  • Model positive and appropriate behavior for students and staff and demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible
  • Articulate the districts mission and goals in the area of counseling services.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ACA Code of Ethics/Standards.

Professional Growth and Learning

  • Participate in professional learning activities to improve skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Maintain familiarity with district initiatives and curriculum to better serve students needs.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment computer peripherals electronic devices

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing occasional kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling twisting reaching

Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions keyboarding use of mouse wrist flexion/extension

Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance 30-55 pounds with assistance and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance

Environment: Work is performed on campus and in an office setting; frequent in-district travel; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress work with frequent interruptions
