The position provides equipment maintenance installation and repair services involving several craft skills (including electrical plumbing air conditioning and refrigeration) necessary for the upkeep of campus dining and support facilities. May be assigned to evening or weekend schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains diagnoses and repairs a variety of major appliances and related equipment in kitchens such as walk-in coolers walk-in freezers ice makers ovens food mixers salad cutters food carriers compactors electric ranges dish-washers scales steamers food fryers steam kettles steam tables food warmers softeners and various other parts and components as necessary.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on food service equipment and refrigeration: clean condenser and evaporator coils change filters inspect and replace belts test softeners and clean equipment.
- Performs the skilled mechanical work required to maintain install troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of gas and electric commercial kitchen equipment and major appliances. Repair equipment on location when necessary.
- Maintains current repair/service log of University kitchen equipment.
- Reads work orders or receives instructions from supervisor in order to determine work requirements; submits reports describing work performed material used and amount of time spent to accomplish the job.
- Orders repair parts and complete required paperwork
- Troubleshoots and repair refrigeration electrical and plumbing equipment as necessary.
- Measures cuts and solders copper water pipe up to 2.
- Unstops sinks and sewer lines using drain cleaners and chemicals in a safe manner.
- Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public and fellow employees each day to assure and sustain quality service and appropriate interactions with others.
- Participates in on-call rotation schedule
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required; Completion of CFESA certification or other trade program desirable.
- Three years of direct work experience as an equipment repair technician or successful completion of a trade school program required.
- Universal EPA Certification required.
- Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must maintain a valid drivers license motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date.
- Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed
- Must have the ability to demonstrate basic skills in MS Office (Word Excel and Outlook) and common office equipment to include: computer copier and Ipad.
- Must be proficient in speaking reading and writing English; must have ability to read written instructions warning labels SDS Sheets in English understand blueprints and technical drawings.
- Must possess legible handwriting possess eyesight in both eyes corrected to 20/20 and normal hearing ability (may be corrected); must successfully pass a PIPIC test for color blindness.
- Must possess mathematical ability to add subtract multiply and divide in order to compute material costs as required for completion of work order form.
- Must be able to successfully handle frustrating conditions such as limits on time and limited access to equipment; Ability to communicate effectively and display good judgment when providing customer service.
- Must observe safety precautions when working in the presence of extreme noise mechanical electrical and other hazardous situations.
