Job Title: Collection Development Associate/Librarian

Salary Classification: 10 (with LATI); 12 (with MLS)
FLSA: Non-exempt
(Fair Labor Standards Act)

Job Summary:Under the direction of the Collection Development Manager performs a variety of duties within the Collection Development Department and library public services.

Essential Functions:

Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.

  1. Under the direction of the Collection Development Manager selects new materials and acts as subject matter expert for areas within the Librarys collection.
  2. Assists in the maintenance of the collection utilizing and interpreting data to identify trends gaps and replacement needs.
  3. Maintains and updates acquisitions module of ILS.
  4. Communicates with vendors to place orders and resolve problems.
  5. Troubleshootslostmissing and damagedmaterials.
  6. May develop subject guides or curate lists to promote the collection.
  7. Works at different locations throughout the CCPL system as needed including in a public facing capacity.
  8. Provides a consistently high level of service to regional partners vendors library staff and customers by handling inquiries responding to requests or locating appropriate resources for the request.
  9. Professionally represents the Library at community and organizational events that further the Librarys missions and goals.
  10. Attends meetings and participates in committees and organizations that further the Librarys mission and goals.
  11. Fulfills Continuing Education requirements and stays current with Library developments.
  12. Supports the Collection Development Manager with department projects.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Ability to gain working knowledge of Charles County Public Librarys policies and procedures.
  2. Ability to act as a representative of Charles County Public Library to the public.
  3. Shows a working knowledge of all department operations; participates in interlibraryactivities.

  5. Ability to keep all relevant parties informed of all major issues and to recommend changes as appropriate.
  6. Demonstrates sound judgment when making decisions.
  7. Knowledge of resources and best practices in collection development to ensure a diverse collection that serves the community.
  8. Knowledge of electronic resources including the Internet database information management Excel and Google Sheets.
  9. Knowledge of the Librarys collections and an ILS such as Polaris.
  10. Ability to operate relevant computer systems including hardware and software eReaders and relevant office equipment.
  11. Ability to work evenings weekends and at other branches as needed.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work requires routine physical effort in the handling of moderately heavy materials of up to 40 pounds. Work requires standing for long periods of time and some stooping and bending.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices libraries classrooms or meeting and training rooms e.g. use of safe workplace practices with office equipment avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations.
