Under the supervision of the principal the reading specialist is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; maintains detailed and accurate records as required by the school; establishes positive school-community relationships; continues professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications; performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide direct reading instruction and intervention to students who are behind in reading and have specific reading difficulties.
- Work closely with classroom teachers and other relevant personnel to support students reading development.
- Ensure a cohesive approach to literacy instruction.
- ELA direct support: Teach/instruct students grades K-4 in small groups or individually for the purpose of ensuring successful progress towards students goals and objectives.
- Use a variety of ongoing assessments.
- Collect and analyze school literacy data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
- Communicate with parents about their childs reading progress and provide guidance on how to support reading at home.
- Knowledge of reading development assessment and instructional strategies including structured literacy approaches.
- Treat confidential information about students staff and school affairs in a professional and ethical manner.
- Attends and actively participates in school faculty meetings and in-services
Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.

- Effectively communicates with students parents and staff.
- Communicates in English at a level sufficient for successful job performance.
- Meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- Must be willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic and if non Catholic willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy.
- Bachelors Degree in Education
- Specialized training related to the position
- Minimum three years of teaching experience
- Received Safe Environment Training
