Job Summary

The Permits & Compliance Specialist is responsible for coordinating and maintaining all project permitting requirements related to the construction installation zoning and occupancy across multiple jurisdictions. This role ensures our field operations remain compliant with local state and federal addition this position will support broader compliance initiatives including internal audits policy enforcement and document tracking for regulatory purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and secure required construction installation and zoning permits across all operating regions.
  • Track and renew permit statuses to ensure continuous compliance and avoid project delays.
  • Maintain accurate records of permit applications approvals expirations and fees.
  • Coordinate with installation sales and field operations teams to understand project timelines and permitting needs.
  • Serve as a liaison with city/county offices code enforcement departments and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in permit and compliance regulations affecting operations.
  • Support internal compliance initiatives including form/document audits and report tracking.
  • Assist with enforcement of internal compliance policies and provide documentation to internal stakeholders and third parties as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and stay current with permitting and compliance trends relevant to the construction and home improvement industry.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on audits reporting or compliance checks as required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required associate or bachelors degree in business legal studies or a related field preferred.

Certifications (Value-Added Qualifications):
While not required the following certifications are considered advantageous and may enhance a candidates effectiveness in the role:

  • ICC Certified Permit Technician (CPT): Demonstrates foundational knowledge of permitting code administration and zoning regulations
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP): Indicates formal training in regulatory compliance and ethical program oversight
  • Notary Public (State-Specific): Supports official document execution and verification responsibilities
  • Microsoft Excel Certification: Confirms advanced proficiency in spreadsheet-based tracking and reporting
  • Lean Six Sigma (White or Yellow Belt): Adds value in process improvement and operational efficiency related to permitting or compliance workflows

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience in permitting compliance or regulatory documentation (experience in construction or home improvement preferred).
  • Experience managing complex licensing processes in a regulated industry (e.g. healthcare finance manufacturing) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of business licensing software or database management systems is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of local/state permitting processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage high volumes of documents and deadlines.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word Outlook).
  • Experience with permit or compliance tracking systems a plus.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel or attend meetings with permitting authorities as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience ranging from $55000 to $65000.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to municipal offices or field operations sites
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and work on a computer daily
  • May involve handling confidential or sensitive documentation
