Mechanical Test Technician

Are you a practical detail-oriented technician who enjoys working on large-scale mechanical systems Were looking for a Mechanical Test Technician to join a forward-thinking engineering business in the Portsmouth area. This role offers the chance to work at the cutting edge of material testing and mechanical validation supporting the creation of advanced products used in demanding environments.

From setting up bespoke tests to operating heavy-duty hydraulic equipment youll play a key role in verifying product performance and ensuring engineering excellence. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on variety enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in precision work.

The responsibilities of the Mechanical Test Technician include:

  • Preparing and conducting mechanical tests on a variety of materials and assemblies ranging from small components to full-scale prototypes.
  • Operating hydraulic and pressure systems to perform high-load and high-pressure tests.
  • Installing sensors and measurement devices to monitor strain load and pressure accurately.
  • Supporting the design and development of custom testing solutions to meet new technical challenges.
  • Keeping equipment in top condition through regular maintenance and calibration.
  • Documenting test results and assisting with product development feedback.
  • Helping train team members in the correct use of testing procedures and equipment.

Requirements:

  • HNC or ONC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience in hands-on mechanical testing or test rig operation.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and pressure testing setups.
  • Confident in applying instrumentation for test data collection.
  • Comfortable using software for data recording and reporting.
