Job Description

It is essential that the successful candidate has a drivers licence and access to a car.

What is great about this role

Our Housing First service delivers intensive support to people who are street homeless with the goal to move them into a tenancy and empower them to live independently. This role will involve you predominantly working in the Newport area. You will be responsible for carrying out housing and support assessments whilst working closely with individuals to ensure resettlement and that the right support is provided.

How can I make a difference

Housing First is a frontline service that entails outreach work to engage marginalised and vulnerable people who are street homeless or otherwise precariously housed. This is with a view to preparing them for sourcing and supporting them in secure accommodation. You will be working closely with these individuals to get them off the streets into a tenancy and empowering them to live independently and maintain that tenancy. You will also work with an experienced resilient and trusting team who support each other and are passionate about their work.

This is a challenging role and you will need to have an understanding of the needs of rough sleepers and the organisations and agencies you can work with to be able to support them. The people you will be supporting will have varying support needs so being able to communicate effectively is key to being successful in this role.

Day to Day Duties:

As a Housing First Co-Ordinator your day will consist of:

  • Managing your own caseload
  • Working directly with people who are sleeping rough on the streets
  • Engaging and interacting with the people we support to establish goals to work towards
  • Carrying out housing and support assessments with the people we support
  • Providing advice on finances health welfare benefits housing options and tenancy management skills
  • Working with external agencies and signposting the people we support to the appropriate services suited to their needs specifically treatment and mental health services

  • Work Pattern: Hours are predominately worked between Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm but flexibility is required as there may sometimes be weekend working.
