The Role
The role of Risk Engineer is to understand the key exposures of our clients across various industrial sectors and to help them manage their risk to a tolerable role involves a great degree of client interaction and requires the ability to communicate in a consultative but diplomatic manner in order to deliver the results for industry and insurance stakeholders. The outcome of risk engineering surveys is the delivery of technical reports that must be clear to both technical and non-technical audiences so the ability to communicate with a wide audience is essential.
The successful candidate will be involved in the management of accounts for multi-national organisations across a range of manufacturing and process industries but will be supplemented with survey work in other industries. Excellent knowledge of manufacturing and process operations logistics operations asset integrity activities (maintenance & inspection) and process safety management; plus international codes & standards is highly desirable.
As part of the team you will:
- Develop and lead risk engineering strategies.
- Develop risk engineering programmes for insured clients taking into consideration the requirements of all stakeholders.
- Arrange individual risk engineering surveys through discussions with account teams clients and market engineers.
- Prepare marketing risk assessment reports to assist in the placement of client insurance programmes within a prescribed timeframe.
- Calculate loss expectancies within company guidelines across a range of industries.
- Provide technical support to clients and the broking team across a range of issues relating to good industry property protection practices.
- Clear understanding of the funding that supports engineering activities on individual accounts so as to ensure that the programme stays within the allocated budget.
- Develop risk improvement recommendations that are clear appropriate and are fairly balanced between the interests of insureds and insurers.
QualificationsThe Requirements
- 10 years of experience working in a processing or manufacturing environment.
- This experience can be in a variety of roles including operations technical engineering maintenance or HSE.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Additional qualifications in risk management or relevant accreditations would be considered favourably.
- Comfortable travelling extensively (e.g. approx. 90 days per year) on an international basis.
- Self-starter with good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels from site technicians up to company CEOs.
- Ability to write detailed reports of a varied technical nature.
- Member of engineering associations (i.e. IChemE IMechE etc.) is preferable.
- Experience of working with international engineering standards and codes such API ASME IEEE NFPA ANSI.
- Working knowledge of fire protection and detection systems would be considered favourable.
