As aThin FilmsProcess Engineer you will lead the feasibility process development and equipment bring-up for cutting-edge micro-assembly processes used in flexible medical device manufacturing. This role will focus on developing and optimizing key processes such as laser scribing lift-off and delamination of polyimide (PI) devices tab bonding ACF bonding pick-and-place assembly and wafer testing and inspection as well as other potentially.
You will be at the forefront of bringing advanced healthcare solutions to market making a tangible difference in peoples lives worldwide.
This position will be office-based in Bellaterra.
Your profile
Main responsibilities:- Development to Production Transfer: The principal responsibility of development team is to manage the development-to-production transfer process ensuring that prototype designs are effectively scaled for manufacturing with a focus on yield improvement design optimization and manufacturing readiness. This includes creating and refining the Bill of Materials (BOM) Bill of Processes (BOP) manufacturing equipment specifications testing protocols and manufacturing recipes.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors to manage equipment bring-up qualification and tool acceptance for thin film processes.
- Coordinate or conduct materials characterization using tools such as SEM AFM XPS FTIR and profilometersetcto ensure film quality and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve process issues related to thin film deposition adhesion and uniformity.
- Implement process control methodologies including SPC (Statistical Process Control) tomonitorand improve process stability and yield.
- Support the integration of new materials into device structures ensuring compatibility with existing processes and substrates.
- Assistwith process documentation including work instructions process flows and risk assessments.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for thin film processes to improve yieldand cycle time throughput and material reliability.
Mandatory Qualifications and Soft skills:- Bachelors and Masters degree in Materials Science Chemical Engineering Physics or a related field.
- Around 3 years experience in thin film deposition processes in a semiconductor microfabrication or materials development environment.
- Fluency in Englishrequired (company main language)
- Knowledge of PVD CVD ALD and sputtering techniques.
- Experience with materials characterization tools (e.g. SEM AFM XPS profilometers).
- Hands-on experience with process optimization and equipment qualificationin clean room environments.
- Familiarity with process control systems (SPC FMEA).
- Strong understanding of substrate preparation film adhesion and material compatibility for multi-layer structures.
- Analytical Problem-Solver andDetail-Oriented
- Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams including technicians engineers and external vendors.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced evolving environment with shifting priorities and new challenges.
- Ability to clearly document processeswritereports and present technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to have:- Experience working with novel semiconductor materials or biocompatible materials for medical or industrial applications.
- Knowledge of device integration and post-processing techniques (e.g. etching bonding).
- Experience with automated optical inspection (AOI) and yield management systems.
- Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and data warehouse systems.
- Previousexperience in ISO 13485 or GMP-compliant environments.
- Experience with vacuum systems gas handling and environmental controls for thin film processes.
