Job Description
Overview
Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgical Test Technician in our Wixom MI lab to safely perform work in accordance with established SOP and QA procedures in conducting Material and Metallurgical Testing within the laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of test samples by sectioning with precision abrasive saws and mounting/grinding/polishing of specimens
- Hardness testing: Vickers and Knoop
- Macro and micro photography
- Basic metallurgical testing: coating thickness case depth image analysis etc
- Summarizes test results using basic mathematical calculations and data reductions
- Testing is conducted on many alloys including aluminum steels stainless steel titanium copper etc.
- Maintain related test equipment tools and machinery in good working condition
Skills / Qualifications
- 1-2 years in the TIC sector is preferred but not required
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Experience in interpreting testing procedures and requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications
- Ability to remain calm when faced with pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs
