Essential Job Responsibilities & Duties:
Oversee and execute all legal operations for the organization its multiple legal entities domestic and abroad. This includes leading the legal team and working closely with global and external counsel when necessary.
Oversees contract management including leases worldwide and without limitation those with foreign universities IES Consortium member institutions business partners landlords contractors etc.
Oversee general legal compliance for the organization working closely with and providing expert guidance to key offices across IES Global.
Engage with legal experts in countries in which IES Global operates to ensure compliance with local regulations across a range of issues including employment compensation and labor laws; registration requirements; and more.
Develop legal oversight protocols and procedures that appropriately balance risk and efficiency for a growing international organization with a high volume of legal agreements.
Under the leadership of the COO provide oversight and implementation of risk assessment risk management and the enterprise risk management process world-wide enhancing preventive measures systems and processes
Under the leadership of the COO manage oversight of global insurance for the organization including general liability D&O property educators legal liability excess/umbrella crime fiduciary travel accident workers compensation automobile insurance etc.
Provide oversight and strategic direction in the drafting of internal legal documents such as standard contract templates agreements waivers and other relevant documents that align with best practices.
Provide expert legal guidance and when required participate in matters related to crisis management.
Collaborate with Accounting and Finance department to determine financial and tax requirements for IES Global entities
With support of outside counsel as needed manage the organizations response to potential legal claims.
Management of IES headquarters relationships and responsibilities to/for current and future foreign governance groups (e.g. London Charity Trust Spanish Foundation Amsterdam Foundation Paris Bureau Nantes and Nice Associations Moroccan Association etc.)
Responds to and meets with broad range of internal and external individuals and groups frequently related to matters of immediate concern and coordinates responses solutions and follow-up with the CEO and other appropriate officers. Evaluates and researches variety of issues problems etc. and makes assessments in order to advise and assist the CEO.
Working closely with executives and key IES Abroad areas ensures that legal operations align with organizational strategy and priorities.
Oversee approve and manage the legal budget.
Projects and duties as assigned by President & Chief Executive Officer.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Experience & Qualifications/Skills:
A minimum of 7 years of leadership in legal role within a complex organization; previous experience as a general counsel is preferred.
Legal experience in higher education or a global organization is required.
Ability to maintain confidential information with tact and discretion is required.
Demonstration of initiative and sound judgment while working effectively under minimal direction is required.
Exceptional interpersonal abilities and communication etiquette is required.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain multiple complex and competing priorities is required.
High level organizational proficiency and proven ability to meet deadlines while maintaining composure under stress is required.
Project time management and problem-solving skills including the ability to articulate progress concerns and recommendations in a timely & concise manner are required.
Proven track record of collaborating with colleagues to solve complex operational challenges.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
Exceptional attention to detail is required.
Ability to be flexible and highly adaptive to change is required.
Education Licenses and/or Certifications:
J.D. required; Must be licensed to practice law in IL
