Position Summary:

St. Thomas University invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty position in the Master of Applied Kinesiology program within the College of Health Sciences and Technology. We are seeking qualified instructors to teach graduate-level courses in areas such as Advanced Strength and Conditioning Clinical Exercise Physiology Biomechanics and Prevention and Recognition of Athletic Injuries.

This position is ideal for professionals with expertise in kinesiology-related fields who are committed to high-quality student-centered teaching in a graduate education environment.

About the Program:

The MS in Applied Kinesiology at STU focuses on the scientific study of human movement and its practical applications in health fitness and performance. Students explore biomechanics exercise physiology motor learning and rehabilitation to better understand how the body moves and responds to physical activity. The program prepares graduates for careers in strength and conditioning physical therapy coaching and health promotion.

  • The specialization in Sports Coaching hones your skills to mentor and lead athletes to their peak potential.
  • The specialization in Human Performance equips you with cutting-edge techniques to enhance physical capabilities.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Teach 1 or more graduate-level courses including but not limited to;
    • Advanced Strength and Conditioning
    • Clinical Exercise Physiology
    • Biomechanics
    • Prevention and Recognition of Athletic Injuries
  • Deliver engaging evidence-based instruction primarily through PowerPoint or iPad-based lectures.
  • Utilize the CANVAS Learning Management System to manage course content assessments and communication.
  • Maintain academic rigor and integrity aligned with graduate-level standards.
  • Provide availability to meet with students for academic support or clarification as needed.
  • Maintain timely communication with program leadership and students.

Course Structure and Format:

  • Courses are primarily taught in person at St. Thomas University.
  • Most classes meet once per week for 2.5 hours.
  • Common class times: 3:055:35 PM or 6:008:30 PM Monday through Thursday.
  • Average class size: 515 students.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Kinesiology Exercise Science Sports Medicine or a closely related field (e.g. Ph.D. Ed.D. . DPT).
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the subject areas listed.
  • Graduate-level teaching experience or equivalent professional experience in clinical athletic or performance settings.
  • Proficiency in using presentation technology (PowerPoint or iPad).
  • Ability to navigate and utilize CANVAS or similar LMS platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications (e.g. CSCS ACSM-CEP ATC DPT).
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive and culturally responsive teaching.
