Assistant Basketball Coach-Men

An assistant coach in the Fisk University Department of Athletics is expected to reflect and carry out the wishes of the head coach of the particular sport he/she works within as long as that vision or expectation is not in conflict with the policies procedures rules and regulations of the Department the University or any regulatory body to which the Universitys Athletics program subscribes. The expectation of any employee of the Department of Athletics is that the interest of the University and its students comes first and foremost in the operation of its component activities. Fisk University is a member of the NAIA. Fisk University is committed to student success in the classroom as well as in competition and expects to be competitive in those sports that it offers.

Assistant coaches are the most visible representatives of the University and in being so are held to a very high level of scrutiny and expectations. As a highly visible University representative of the students faculty staff administration and alumni he/she is expected to carry themselves and express themselves in a manner commensurate with the great tradition and reputation of the University. Assistant coaches should adhere to all University and NAIA rules regulations and bylaws. They are required to report any known NAIA violations to the Compliance Coordinator Head Coach or Athletics Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Receive direction and supervision from the head coach of your sport on issues including but not limited to:
a) Recruitment of student athletes
b) Attend and work all home games matches and meets when you are not competing with your program.
Assist the game day manager as necessary with setting up the gym for competition.

c) The development of student athletes within the program relative to the development of proper fundamentals and skills.
d) Support the efforts of the head coach in the development of relationships with external entities.
e) Other duties as specified by the head coach.
Assure the academic well-being of student athletes.
Participation in the University outreach efforts as assigned by the head coach.
Assure that the participation in athletics is rewarding educationally to the students.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Other duties may be assigned by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Should possess knowledge of fundamental techniques and skills of the sport in your area and be able to demonstrate and instruct those fundamentals techniques and skills in such a manner as to be understood by the student athletes in the program.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must possess the desire to assist student athletes in their development both athletically and academically.
Must be able to work within the framework of a team oriented work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university is required.

Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively more responsible professional experience in the area of athletics and coaching. Experience on the High School and/or college level preferred

Licenses or Certificates: None required.
